02.14.10 | Good call on Cramps recs.. start with Bad Music For Bad People. The most important era for The Cramps is the first five years - which all of these albums fall within. Not to say they got bad after, but the early founding punk/CBGB era is really where it's at.
Songs the Lord Taught Us
Off The Bone
Psychedelic Jungle/Gravest Hits
And once you're familar with the older stuff, they have a great early rarities/live compilation called "How to Make a Monster". It has an awesome live performance at CBGBs from their peak era and Lux's stage presence has to be heard - the guy was incredible. Too much cool for one dude.
Also check out their late 70s live vhs/dvd "Live at Napa Valley State Mental Institution". It's the single most bad ass live performance of all time. You can see most of it on youtube, netflix it, or just hit up Amazon.
I'm halfway through an epic review of Songs The Lord.. - so STAY AWAY, Cramps fiends. (not that there's any running around these parts anyway...) | Giles92
