DoofusWainwright 09.13.17	- Slow Show...the 29 years section coming in for the first time - Brainy, that drum intro - Sorrow - the backing vocal note hold on 'rag and BONE' - Demons - all the first double-verse 'I am secretly in love with everyone I grew up with...do my crying underwater...etc' so great - Think You Can Wait - last verse, 'I'm thinking, it's simple ...I'll sell apples and ice water at the temple...and I won't make trouble' just incredible stuff, the way he sings this is just devastating. There's loads and loads more.

CugnoBrasso 09.13.17	I like the beginning of Squalor Victoria and Buzzfeed Ohio for the same reason, the orchestral fade-in is magical and the way the piano cuts through in SQ is out of this world. The vox organ at the end of Mistaken for Strangers also gives a nice touch, specially because the notes sound so random and out of the chord. Fanfares at the end of Fake Empire are also good. Backing vocals on Lit Up deserve a nobel. Awesome band even if I didn't enjoy their new album quite as much, but maybe I just need to listen to it a bit more.

Defining moment in Apartment Story for me tho is that first "so worry not.." when a nice pensive little rock song suddenly becomes an expanse. All the Wine is the absolute shit as well. Them twinkles
cylinder 09.14.17	Also: -the bit where you can suddenly hear the piano after the second chorus of Lit Up -Fake Empire, when the drums kick in (obvs) -Little Faith, those clicking drumsticks in the second verse -Fireproof, when the bridge quickly leads right back to the chorus (Jennifer you are not the only one..) -both verses of Day I Die -Empire Line, when the heavy drums come at the last chorus -the solo in Carin, the way it just pops out of the silence

DoofusWainwright 09.14.17	I remember listening to the drums in 'Brainy' and thinking 'there was nothing like this on 'Alligator', this is incredible, a sound of their own'. Then Squalor's drums came in and I was 100% sold. Then I digested the album as a whole and realised this band were going to be cult favourites.
theBoneyKing 09.14.17	Alligator I imagine was sort of a fluke, they were still naive in a way, and happened to make a great record. Boxer was when they became true masters of the craft.
DoofusWainwright 09.14.17	'Alligator' was the travelling salesman coming up with a barrow full of weird glass wares, could be interesting/revolutionary. Bit of a random selection of stuff. 'Boxer' is where he returns with just one glass invention - he holds it up and it illuminates. He's just invented electricity, this is a light bulb. The other glass stuff got ditched. The potential for genius was in there but it was buried and diluted under a load of lesser ideas.
