| Why I Dislike Joey Sturgis
Joey Sturgis is an American record producer (The Devil Wears Prada, Miss May I, For The Fallen Dreams, Before Their Eyes, We Came As Romans, etc). I have huge issues with his way of doing things. My main beef with him is that all of his drum sounds are exactly alike. Before Their Eyes and From The Shallows got his first batch of programmed drums. Now, I can't tell the difference in tones between Miss May I, Asking Alexandria, Oceano, For The Fallen Dreams, We Came As Romans, etc. | 1 | He triggers every fucking drum. | 2 | He's cocky. | 3 | His guitar tones sounds horrible. Learn how to fix this! | 4 | OVER PRODUCED | 5 | 808's out the ass. | |

01.29.10 | Before Their Eyes first album was pretty ace, but other than that they aren't that good. I haven't heard many other albums produced by him, but i can safely say he's no Adam D. | bloc
01.29.10 | Even Adam D. has some issues...
But yes, this list is awesome. Totally agree on the drums. He used digital modelling, so his guitars are definitely gonna be crap. | Prophet178
01.29.10 | DJ Nils is the best producer of all time. | ninjuice
01.29.10 | The last TDWP album sounded pretty autotuned.
Otherwise I don't think I've heard any of this guy's stuff and I don't want to.
Adam D. isn't perfect but Overcome and Killswitch Engage [II] are two albums that say you shouldn't take him away from the mixing board. Not to mention he's hilarious. | Deviant.
01.29.10 | You sure he's actually using an 808? Because that's practically unheard of in the Metal world | poweroftheweez
01.29.10 | michael keene from Sumerian records used to do the same things for the most part. The Facelss, Born of osiris and Veil of Maya's first albums were all drum machines. and only VoM's guitar tone was decent. | BigTuna
01.29.10 | Everything he produces sounds like lip gloss. | promiseswept
01.30.10 | yeah man, 808 hits on basically every breakdown, listen to his stuff in your car | DAVECATAZ
02.07.10 | It's not literally an 808. "808" is just slang for any big bass hit/drop. | Deviant.
02.07.10 | No it's not. An 808 is a programmable drum machine used frequently in the 'electronic' scene | bloc
02.07.10 | Dev, he knows the 808 is a real thing. But he's right about it also being slang. | promiseswept
02.23.10 | yeah it's just slang, listen to msot breakdowns by him, you will hear and feel a distinct bass drop. it's cool but he uses them sooo much | bloc
02.23.10 | He's done a good job with some albums though. At least on ones that aren't post-hardcore/metalcore. Kingdom of Might and Changes come to mind. |
