10.08.10 | I see that now. I will replace it. |

10.08.10 | I've heard the Blinding Light is pretty good. I might have even listened to them before and forgotten about it. Get it, then tell me about it. |

10.08.10 | Surprisingly there isn't that many BAD albums |
eternium
10.08.10 | Why would he do work for a bad band? |
eternium
10.08.10 | However, on his website he calls As I Lay Dying his "clients", so maybe that means something (btw I do still like AILD). This was when he congratulated them on the album sales. |

10.08.10 | There's some good Christian bands. And there's agnostic/atheist bands more humane values than those preached in
Christianity (btbam, converge) |
eternium
10.08.10 | 7 contrasts so much to everything else. Rather minimalistic compared to how busy and heavy the others are. |
AnotherBrick
10.08.10 | he should stick to just doing artwork. |
eternium
10.08.10 | That is true, but I think it's because they usually like heavy music for the wrong reasons. Some aren't real fans of the stuff and are just following trends for money and possibly to spread their religion. The good bands, like Underoath and Thrice, are obviously real fans of the music that they play and have broad horizons. |
AnotherBrick
10.08.10 | what i do |
eternium
10.08.10 | Please, it's two people versus the majority of Sputnik that likes the heavies. |
Jakeitwasaghost
10.08.10 | Even though its completely off topic, I love 2 and 26. The music, not the artwork. If he does draw some of these, he paints a pretty burrito. |
eternium
10.08.10 | He does the vast majority of his artwork by hand.
When I went to The Cool Tour this summer, The Acacia Strain really attacked Christianity (for obvious reasons) in a douchey way and pissed me off. Partly because of their "I'M A BIG TOUGH GUY, I'LL KICK YER ASS" attitude and extremely negative vibe. I can't stand people like that. Also they sucked, as expected. AILD didn't mention religion at all, but Underoath is very nice about it and accepting of nonbelievers such as myself and I respect them for that. |
AnotherBrick
10.08.10 | wait...is this another religion argument? |
Jakeitwasaghost
10.08.10 | No, they're arguing about who gets the last chip in the 7 layer dip. |

10.08.10 | The Acacia Strain singer beat the shit out of the Emmure singer so he's cool in my book. |
Emim
10.08.10 | I'm glad Bannon branches out every now and again and paints TWO skulls. |
eternium
10.08.10 | I think it was someone else.
I could go without Spencer's speech, but at least they're nice about it and only want to help people. It's like the guy who offers you a beer, but then says "oh, I respect that" when you decline. That is, if you would ever decline a beer. |
eternium
10.08.10 | Oh, and most of these don't have skulls in them, so stop bitching about how many skulls there are. |
eternium
10.08.10 | Religion does help some people, even if I do believe that it's kind of naive to depend on blind faith to feel like life has a purpose. It's still better than nothing at all. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | ETID art is not that great, and by that I mean it sucks |
Emim
10.08.10 | 11/30 have skulls, that's still a lot. |
Emim
10.08.10 | Oh, plus you can add the rest of AILD's albums; they all have skulls too. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | he does 3 skulls on the ringworm one, genius. |
eternium
10.08.10 | He wants to help people who are likely struggling with their own issues, such as depression. That's
what got him into Christianity himself, since he used to be a drug addict and stuff.
Yes, Jacob does do skulls a little too much, but I think he's really interested in death and such.
It's still some great art. |
Jakeitwasaghost
10.08.10 | Let's all just defend every possible outcome of the situation so the argument continues? Don't make me drop it.... |
eternium
10.08.10 | Yes and I agree with you. It's just that it works for some people and I think's better than remaining how they were, as long as they don't end up being bigoted religion pushers. I respect people who want to share their religion because they deeply believe that it will help people, but I despise the people who push it onto everyone and then spout about how the NONBELIEVERS ARE ARE SINNERS AND GOING TO HELLLLL.
That's the difference. |

someguest, you are awesome.

You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way"
yup, thats how it was back then, what are you trying to prove here? slaves still have souls in the Bible. |
eternium
10.08.10 | LOL @ you telling me to be tolerant of your beliefs when you believe that God isn't tolerant of my beliefs and just told me that I'm going to end up in Hell. |

10.08.10 | America promoted slavery too, I don't understand what it has to do with anything, it was a fact of life. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | Way to delete my post telling you that Biblical "slavery" is the same as going to jail. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | God doesnt have to tolerate you because he is God, you play by his rules. |
eternium
10.08.10 | Slavery is wrong, immoral, and evil. It treats people as something other than living beings with feelings. They are treated as objects and that passage itself tells the owners to treat them as property. The very fact that you just said that slaves also have souls should be proof that it is condoning the maltreatment of human beings.
I always get the "it was the ways of the past" argument, but that argument is flawed in many, many ways. Mainly, God is supposed to be perfect, so why would God tolerate something at a time and then later change his mind? Why does God care what the culture is and what is acceptable under that culture? There are no exceptions when it comes to morality. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | Im just saying, this conversation has been going in the suggestion of God's existence as true. |
eternium
10.08.10 | I didn't delete any posts. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | You're missing the point. Biblical "slavery" is not some cotton-picking
racist scheme, it was for people who actually sold themselves into slavery
for unpaid debts.
And my post is gone now, idk why if you didn't delete it. |
eternium
10.08.10 | No, the conversation is going in the way of what the Bible says and what Christianity believes. That is coming from someone who does in fact believe in God. |
Emim
10.08.10 | "LOL @ you telling me to be tolerant of your beliefs when you believe that God isn't tolerant of my beliefs and just told me that I'm going to end up in Hell"
Let's speak pure hypotheticals here. The problem with this is that I'm not an almighty creator that created you for a purpose and gives you a choice to follow that purpose or not, all while making you contentious of the consequences. To use the old analogy, it's like your toaster not being tolerant of your want of it to make you toast. |
eternium
10.08.10 | "God didn't write the Bible."
Then why follow it at all? I thought the Bible was the Word of God and should be taken as such. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | The Bible in no means says anything about slavery being wrong or a sin, because thats how it was, slavery is wrong is a thing that recently came about in the past couple centuries. It doesn't really apply |
eternium
10.08.10 | Emim, my issue is that he told me (and Josh D.) that we're going to Hell. He isn't being tolerant himself by throwing the intolerance of God in our faces. |
eternium
10.08.10 | "The Bible in no means says anything about slavery being wrong or a sin, because thats how it was, slavery is wrong is a thing that recently came about in the past couple centuries. It doesn't really apply"
Okay, so do you believe that slavery is okay? Because the Bible certainly does. If this is a perfect God, then things like this never change. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | So? We don't do that now because it was wrong then and it is now. Ownership of people is abhorrent.
1. It wasn't full ownership; you weren't allowed to just kill them or anything. You were to set them free once they had paid their debt. It's actually a system very much utilized in the prison system of America today.
2. They sold themselves into it.
|
Emim
10.08.10 | And the Bible was God-inspired:
"2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | He could have made us unable to dissent. And why should we worship a god who did what came natural to him in the first place, which is creation? That's silly. Besides, religious people don't have free will by definition.
1. Christianity shouldn't be a "religion" but a relationship with God
2. think of it like this, we were given free will, but God knew what we were going to do in the 1st place... |
eternium
10.08.10 | 1. They are allowed to beat the slaves to near-death and would only be punished (by a fine, I think) if the slaves did die.
2. Indentured slavery is still immoral and there are many ways to force someone into debt and thus slavery. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | You're so ridiculous. It's not the definition of slavery of today. It's like prison, and people of today still very mug go to prison for unpaid debts and have less choice on the matter then they did back then. |
eternium
10.08.10 | If you're admitting that the Bible is flawed, then what is the point of following it at all? How do you know what parts are what God intended and what aren't?
FrostBite, you just keep basically saying that God fucked us over for his own pleasure. |
Emim
10.08.10 | As for slavery...
Slavery in that time does NOT equate at all to the current understanding of slavery. A subject or employee could be considered a slave; slaves could also own land. A much better translation would be "debtor". Most would sell themselves to pay off a debt and then would be released after that. |
eternium
10.08.10 | Convict, you aren't allowed to beat prisoners and they do have rights. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | Emim, my issue is that he told me (and Josh D.) that we're going to Hell. He isn't being tolerant himself by throwing the intolerance of God in our faces.
tolerance isnt giving everybody salvation, tolerance is respecting others' beliefs, not by any means thinking its ok. Salvation is acquired through faith, and without it you go to hell. |
PanasonicYouth
10.08.10 | this is why religion can suck it |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | Once again, this talk about slavery being wrong is moot because this is a cultural belief that has only surfaced in the past couple hundred years, there was nothing wrong with it in the eyes of the world for much of its history |
eternium
10.08.10 | Even though everyone else is twisting things around to please their own views, I still respect them for their beliefs. I do not respect people who tell me that I'm going to suffer for all eternity because I refuse to believe in a book that supports so many immoral things and I refuse to believe in a selfish God. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | Convict, you aren't allowed to beat prisoners and they do have rights.
1. I said much like, not exactly like.
2. The slaves very much had rights, they were considered citizens, could
have a family, and own land.
|
eternium
10.08.10 | "Once again, this talk about slavery being wrong is moot because this is a cultural belief that has only surfaced in the past couple hundred years, there was nothing wrong with it in the eyes of the world for much of its history"
So then there is nothing wrong with it in the eyes of God. |
Emim
10.08.10 | "How come it feels like Emim is the only one using logic in here? Josh, as logical as you try to be, you're too quick to jump the gun on anything that possibly makes Christianity look retarded. And at least eternium is trying to figure stuff out."

10.08.10 | people get treated like they arent worth living sometimes, that doesnt mean they aren't. It's kinda like that |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | 1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. 4For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. 6This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
this kills any further discussion saying that the bible allws slavery in today's day and age. |
eternium
10.08.10 | ..there's no difference, especially to the person. If you are treated as if you are worthless, then you will eventually come to believe this yourself. fr33convict
10.08.10 | Just so you all know now I reported this. Say anything you want to know since it's bound to be gone by tomorrow. I appreciate that you want to have an intellegent conversation, but it's too open for anyone to post to keep from insults being flung and unnecessary anger. Religion is a difficult topic to discuss peacefully, but it can be done. Try to get a friend or someone Sputnik who you would like to talk to to discuss it with you, one on one. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | "had" that means God in effect removed them as well, theres two sides to that coin my friend. The idea is following authority |
Emim
10.08.10 | I don't really see what the contention here is; slaves are property. By their very definition.
You're judging a historical way of life, with a skewed ideal of what it became recently. You simply cannot do that; you must take historical context into account. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | Oh, and if the Bible is merely a set of instructions to make your life better, then why be punished for not believing in it?
It's not merely that. That was an ignorant comment from Someguest. |

eternium
10.08.10 | "Conversation over. If you are that out of it, there is no reason to continue."
That right there is why this got reported, even if it was an immature action. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | You wanna talk religion? I said in my post up there group discussion doesn't work and that you need do it one on one peacefully. Hell, I'll talk to you myself in the morning. I'm sorry but this is going nowhere, the questions will remain unanswered until the end of time. These questions are not being answered by anyone, you're giving yourself a sense of gratification for tearing down another's belief. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | the freedom I'm talking about isn't exactly just in legal terms biblically, btw. free will to do anything that's possible is a better way of thinking of it. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | even if it was an immature action
I was asking for clarification, thats not immature |
eternium
10.08.10 | You clearly don't have a good grasp on the meaning of free will. I do not have the freedom to kill someone because of the fact that I will go to prison. However, people have the freedom to be douchebags and the consequence of that is that everyone will think that you're a douchebag.
Understand? |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | The question of free will is the philosophical question whether, and in what sense, rational agents exercise control over their actions, decisions, or choices. . |
eternium
10.08.10 | But apparently we don't have the freedom to have an open group discussion on religion because someone doesn't like how we do it. Despite what you think, questions were being answered and ideas were being traded. The only person who thinks otherwise is you. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | I'm not sure if you are defending it or not, but honestly, there has to be a limit of decency to have a civil discussion. What I was responding to is absolute idiocy.
that's unecessary, I was just asking a question; I wanted clarification... |
Emim
10.08.10 | "you cant seriously believe in something that is supposed to love all unconditionally but somehow hates fags/ non believers/ people who worship other deitys/things? like are you kidding me dude religion is absolute bullshit and i do believe in a god"
Ever heard of hate the sin love the sinner? People just assume that because we don't approve of people's practices (and the fact that fanatics speak louder and are the preferred representation of Christians as a whole) that we hate them. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | You can't have free will because you have to act in accordance with something transcendant above you.
I'd say that's ruled by judgement however, not possibilities. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | "its astonishing how fundamental christians eat this shit up i mean look at the world your "god created" LOOK THE FUCK AROUND YOU"
Come back when you have enough knowledge to participate civilly. |
eternium
10.08.10 | The problem is that you can't love someone and then punish them eternally. I much prefer the idea of reincarnation over this. |

Emim
10.08.10 | "You can't have free will because you have to act in accordance with something transcendant above you."
Free will is not the ability to do whatever you want and not have to deal with the results. Free will is being able to look at the red and blue pill, and pick the red one. |
eternium
10.08.10 | I meant that it was immature to report this. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | scripture says God allows you to choose, with your own judgement (some people have bad judgement), and receive the consequences clearly stated in the Scriptures. |
Ire
10.08.10 | You know you can lock the list. derp derp derp |
eternium
10.08.10 | Again, I don't have the freedom to murder because I will be punished. I have the freedom to say whatever I want because I will not be punished (except like with the douchebag example). |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | WOW, he's basically made the same 3 album covers 30 times
^haha this is pretty true |

10.08.10 | What derp? I want this conversation to happen. I just don't want it to be censored. |

10.08.10 | "Right, and if god says you have to pick blue, you have to pick blue. I don't live under those circumstances."
But following laws is different, this conversation is all hypothetically assuming God is true and the scriptures are true right? |

I like that one |
WhiteWallStargazers
10.08.10 | Just to throw out my opinion of CHristianity: The entire point of the New Testament is about love, how we're supposed to love others as we love ourselves and love those we despise. That's what 99% of Christians preach but don't follow |
tiesthatbind
10.08.10 | "so god hates that you're gay, but he loves you? that's not unconditional love then dude"
How is it not? It means that he loves the person but not the lifestyle. |
eternium
10.08.10 | No, the conversation is about what parts of Christianity we don't like and explaining why. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | "how in the world did a jacob bannon art thread turn into a religious debate"
I have no clue. I came when it was already there |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | I subtracted my report a few minutes ago, sorry I forgot to mention that. To be honest, I think I've just had enough of the whole religious debate thing. However, I was only thinking about how I thought it would turn out. If you guys think questions are really being answered and that this is going somewhere, by all means keep your little discussion going. Sorry if I came off as a bit of a jerk, I guess I'm more tired than I realized I was :/ |
eternium
10.08.10 | The only reason I allowed this is because I absolutely love and get into debates like this. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | "That's what 99% of Christians preach but don't follow"
where are you pulling these numbers? |
DiceMan
10.08.10 | Then why follow it at all? I thought the Bible was the Word of God and should be taken as such.
This is silly. I can be quoted in a book regardless of who writes it so why should God? |
eternium
10.08.10 | Thank you convict, because I actually like having a list of Jacob Bannon's artwork and don't want that deleted. |
Emim
10.08.10 | "so god hates that you're gay, but he loves you? that's not unconditional love then dude"
I'm sorry, bro, but you're not thinking clearly. You don't have a grasp on the concept at hand.
"so god hates that you're gay, but he loves you? that's not unconditional love then dude"
God says for his followers to pick blue, which they've already done. The decision to pick a color has never been up to anyone but you. |

WhiteWallStargazers
10.08.10 | Oh I'm not saying it's fact, just personal observation/belief. . plus it was more of a general statement, then an attempt at fact..just my opinion buddy |
DiceMan
10.08.10 | I've also never read anywhere worth believing ever that God hates people who are gay. That's just humans being really really effin stupid. |
fr33convict
10.08.10 | I normally do to. Ask climactic, I've talked to him for well over six hours on AIM about it. The problem is Sputnik repeatedly shows a lack of control in these situations and it winds up being a religion bashing fest. However, this one is more civilized. You guys are free to continue. |

10.08.10 | Most Christians are hypocrites. Hell, everyone is a hypocrite in some way.
"Christians are the most heartless people on the planet." However, you are making very inappropriate assumptions and stereotyping a billion and a half people as all the same. Then again, that's what you do. |
FrostbiteOblivion
10.08.10 | "...and this is why we fight wars"
without war, things wouldnt be so great. war can be just. its just usually not |

I agree, everyone is a hypocrite in their own way, so its kind of moot. |

10.08.10 | "Christians are the most heartless people on the planet."
I wouldn't say Christians, but I would say anyone that uses something intended for good as a justification for whatever heinous acts they commit. One of my favorite quotes is "Some of the most despicable things ever committed were done in the name of God" |
DiceMan
10.08.10 | without war, things wouldnt be so great.

It really depends on when the absence of war is initiated. And exactly how you define war. |

Yeah some people are awful, but you're really just always going to get this no matter which spectrum of people you pick out. Humans are humans. Humans are flawed. Some more than others. |
Asiatic667
10.08.10 | I was raised a christian.I was homeschooled. I followed christianity. I got bored, and experienced new horizons, people, and fell in love with a wonderful non-christian girl. My views have changed. The Bible has a lot of good advice, but it IS flawed. I'm living my life MY way, doing the best I can. Wether I burn for eternity or not won't change any of this happiness.
Is god real? Easily could be, easily couldn't. Is he essential in living a happy, morally grounded life? Not really.
Just a simple opinion from a simple person. Hope that helps |
