03.04.10 | I'm gearing up to pop my review cherry. I'm gonna go with something I like enough to do research on and spend some real time listening to. |

03.04.10 | do something that you either know really well and/or something you know you can strongly articulate your opinions on |
Deviant.
03.04.10 | When it comes to your first review I wouldn't worry if there's already x reviews for the album already. Just review something that you're comfortable with, a band you know a lot about, and in a genre you can talk about with some detail. |
Carnifex
03.04.10 | Alright, I think I'm gonna go with the Eternal Lord album. The current review is pretty awful and yeah, I'd love to see my review up there as the default. |

03.04.10 | No, do something that hasn't been reviewed on this site yet. Reviewing is for helping people out who are considering listening to an album. If it has already been reviewed then you are not helping as much. |
Athom
03.04.10 | if it offers a differing opinion or takes the place of a shit review then I'm all for it, even if I never will listen to Eternal Lord. ever. |
Carnifex
03.04.10 | Well, the review that's currently up is like a fanboy soundoff. 5/5 people negged it, and I'm positive I could write a far superior review that people wouldn't neg.
My score would probably be in the 3.5-4 range, definitely not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination but I'm still a fan of the work. |

03.04.10 | Something you know well that preferably does not have a review. That way, even if it blows ass it's still at least somewhat helpful. Plus if you review something with other reviews it's gonna get compared at least to some extent.
But do whatever you want really. You should enjoy reviewing so do whichever one you think you would enjoy writing about the most. |

03.04.10 | I'd say do something you can say a lot about. Like, something you ranked a 3 / 3.5. that was, you can say the good AND the bad. |

03.04.10 | hey dude, good job on wanting to start reviewing.
my pointers for you are prty much the ones I took. try to pick one that doesn't have a review, particularly one that's not that well known on the site, unless you're confident in your abilities. or write one that has a crappy review. last thing you want to do is write a review that's subpar to the previous ones. |
Carnifex
03.04.10 | Thanks for all the tips guys, I think I am gonna go with Eternal Lord. I have a good list of pros/cons to the album and a decent understanding of the band's history. |
cvlts
03.04.10 | oh yeah, dont do a track by track. talk about the band and the album andwhy or why not it's good. |
TMobotron
03.04.10 | Pretty sure for every liked and well-known band you name drop you increase your chances of getting a pos by quite a bit too. |
Carnifex
03.04.10 | Yeah I didn't plan on doing a track by track, I wanted to talk about the album in general, and then reference tracks based on the sound that I'm describing. |
