| Bands That Influence My Guitar Playing
I've been playing guitar for close to two or three years now, and I was just thinking about how A) never made a sputnik list, and B) the artists that influenced me. So, whoo! first list | 1 | | Bob Dylan Blood On The Tracks
Not his electric stuff, but his acoustic. Just for the way he uses simple chords that compliment his songs, and tell the story. I've always viewed Bob as more of a story. Its something I often attempt at and almost never seem to be able to replicate | 2 | | Protest The Hero Fortress
And the opposite end of the spectrum is Protest the Hero. I started listening to these guys after fortress came out, and was wowed by the guitar. I bought the tab book and learned as much of the sweep heavy guitar work as I could, but man is it sloppy. Any time I do some sweep or advanced technique, its thanks to these guys. | 3 | | Jimi Hendrix Axis: Bold as Love
Do I need to explain? His playing, especially on this album, is beautiful. Bold as Love and Little Wing are possibly my two favorite songs to play, ever. | 4 | | Minus the Bear Planet of Ice
Tapping is a funny thing, you can do it fairly easily, but its about more than that. It can make you seem like a huge tool, or it make you seem like an expert. Whenever I use it, I aim for the latter, which I've always thought these guys did extremely well. Also, a guy named Rob Scallon helped a lot, so I kind of put these two in one category. | 5 | | Queens of The Stone Age Songs for the Deaf
One of the first bands to really make me want to play guitar, and one of the first albums to get me into rock in general. I put this on here because of how many of their songs I learned, or attempted, back in the early days. | 6 | | The Black Keys Chulahoma
The blues is a great genre. Almost any jam I do has more than a hint of it, and these are one of my favorite current blues bands. That is all | 7 | | The Fall of Troy The Fall of Troy
My favorite band. Loved them since the first time I heard them, loved hearing them live. I know more of their songs than any other band, and have always admired the augmented chord followed by quick hammer on pull off riff. But they way they do it has an almost poppy quality to it, it has a sort of catchiness other bands don't get. And the fact that Thomas Erak does it all himself just makes it all better. | |
