This coming Saturday Sir Paul McCartney will be turning 80 years old. Back in early June he did a three night stand at Fenway park in Boston which unfortunately I wasn’t able to see. But just the idea that McCartney is still performing at his age is awe inspiring enough. So in honor of this milestone and taking inspiration from the Stereogum article where they ask 80 artists to name their favorite McCartney songs, I am going to do the same but instead with a hundred..
Ooh, neat. I think, on Saturday, I might have to make my own list of my favorite McCartney Beatles songs. I think I'll do twelve songs then, but here are twenty favorites (which twelve will be on Saturday's list you'll have to guess for now 😉):
"Yesterday"
"Day Tripper"
"We Can Work It Out"
"Paperback Writer"
"Here, There and Everywhere"
"Got to Get You Into My Life"
"Getting Better"
"She's Leaving Home"
"Magical Mystery Tour"
"Hello Goodbye"
"Penny Lane"
"Lady Madonna"
"Hey Jude"
"Back in the U.S.S.R."
"Mother Nature's Son"
"Helter Skelter"
"Get Back"
"Maxwell's Silver Hammer"
"You Never Give Me Your Money"
"Let It Be"
Huh -- what did you say? Feel free to shoutbox me with it, in case the OP deletes it again (or you can just post it here or not at all if you don't feel like it, no pressure 🙂).
