01.31.13 | Suicidal thoughts, It ain't hard to telll are far better than the songs you put of biggie and nas. | InHumanForm
01.31.13 | Na, it aint hard to tell is awesome but N.Y. state of mind is story telling wise much better. Suicidal thoughts would be cliche, great track, but Warning is probably biggies most lyrical cut. | Masochist
01.31.13 | For Nas, my choice would be "The World Is Yours" or "One Mic." Biggie...wow, he has a million choices--"Things Done Change" is Biggie's "NY State of Mind," but "Everyday Struggles" has that haunting desperation for hope behind it. "Sky's The Limit" is just pretty. But it'd probably be "Everyday Struggles" for me, if not "Big Poppa" just because it's fucking awesome.
All that being said...there are only too many songs left off of this list, and not even the more generic ones. I'd've added Black Star's "Respiration," Common's "The Corner," The Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By," Mobb Deep's "Shook Ones"...and probably something by Eminem. Some of the ones that are on here, like that ATCQ song, are absolutely in place.
But fuck it...a list about hip-hop? I dig it. | InHumanForm
01.31.13 | Damn I forgot throw Aint no half steppin by kane on this..fucked up. I see your point, and I might be a little Wu and Nas biased, but I'm into lyrical ability more than anything else in hip hop | InHumanForm
01.31.13 | I love warning because he just tears the beat up, there's no chorus or hook. | Masochist
01.31.13 | In that case, "Respiration" absolutely deserves a spot. A superlative for the careers of both Mos Def and Talib Kweli (and a guest spot by Common to round things out). If you haven't heard it...well, you need to hear it ;-)
Of course, I'm biased, as well, since I'll listen to most anything that Mos Def plays a starring role in. | Masochist
01.31.13 | For me, I relate most to songs that tell how life truly was from the rappers' point of view. Songs like Eminem's "Rock Bottom," or "On My Block" by Scarface, or something like that...just good story-telling. Not to say I don't listen to club hits or fucking boisterous, violent shit, either, but those stories...especially the ones with nostalgia-inducing samples and beats.
And yeah, everytime I hear 'Ready To Die', I never can figure out how it's just song after song after song of awe-inspiring work.
DAMN, NIGGAS WANNA STICK ME FOR MY PAPER. | ExcentrifugalForz
01.31.13 | Nice attempt but missin Def and/or outkast. Though not adding J was the right call. | Necrotica
01.31.13 | no NWA :'( But either way, good list, fucking love #1 |
