08.01.09 | well technically i 'get' them and i've tried to like them but its just not happening. |
Satellite
08.01.09 | 1) The most important band of our generation.
2) A guilty pleasure pop-rock band with a profoundly hot frontwoman.
3) A shitty radio rock band for kids trying to make the varsity wrestling team.
4) A one-hit wonder/Strokes imitator. |
Bleak
08.01.09 | This^ |
CelestialDust
08.01.09 | errr

08.01.09 | or some people enjoy pop-rock idk
1 aren't like most music. You have to get your head around them. If you haven't heard Kid A, listen to it in the dark all the way through doing absolutely nothing, and then tell me you still don't get them. |
theacademy
08.01.09 | ok, i know this is a sensitive subject for SO MANY USERS...but really, what's the use of trying to force yourself to "get" something. Won't someone's music mean a lot more to them if they just identify with whatever they fit with naturally? That's just my two cents.
For the record, I don't "get" radiohead, mewithoutyou, (and Jet lol) |
CelestialDust
08.01.09 | yes like i naturally listen to lady gaga on the radio and naturally want her to ride my disco stick |
Captain North
08.01.09 | It took me a while to get Radiohead (well, I'd only heard OK Computer at the time, I changed my mind once I listened to their other stuff). But they are amazing.
Jet are shit, and there's nothing interesting about Disturbed. |
Electric City
08.01.09 | keep listening to radiohead |

08.01.09 | I used to think so, theacademy.
Then I forced myself to 'get' Bon Iver and when it clicked - which it did after the fourth spin - it clicked on such a massive level I realised that you're going to miss out on a lot of awesome shit if you only listen to music that comes naturally to you. Sometimes there's no point forcing an album on you; for example, I've conceded that I don't understand most metal. But I still challenge that at points and am glad for doing so because it's revealed at least 1 album this year that I think is great. There's a hell of a lot of value in listening to music that is critically acclaimed / widely appreciated because often you're missing out on something. Sometimes you'll never find what that is, but occasionally you find yourself fucking stunned. |
endlessartix
08.01.09 | Well, I forced myself to like Rush and now I'm a huge fanboy, so maybe... |
BSX
08.01.09 | Is Radiohead THAT good? Seems like a lot of people on this site worship them. |
Prophet178
08.01.09 | Yes, yes they are. |
BSX

08.01.09 | radiohead recs, anyone? |
Prophet178
08.01.09 | Start with OK Computer then go forward from there through the discography. |
Satellite
08.01.09 | ^ This. You're not ready for Kid A if you haven't heard OK Computer beforehand. |
ninjuice
08.01.09 | "there's not much to get about 2 other than that people pretend to like it cuz they think the singer will fuck them."
Slightly funny, but still idiotic....not sure if you broke even there. |
Douchebag
08.01.09 | I personally quite enjoy 4 and somewhat looking foward to their new album. |
Chewie
08.01.09 | I hated Faith No More and Sonic Youth at first listen but now they're two of my favorite bands. Some of the best music takes a while to appreciate.
AMNESIAC |

08.01.09 | dude 4 is so awesome just listen 2 them more |
CelestialDust
08.01.09 | get the bends too, it's easy to get into |
Gyromania
08.01.09 | What don't you 'get' about these? They're pretty easy to grasp. |
Aids
08.01.09 | For Radiohead, start with The Bends because it's very accessible but still incredible. OK computer is weirder and Kid A is weirder still. I say leave Kid A until you've developed a liking for them; then it will blow you out of the water.
P.S. Kid A rules. |
Aids
08.01.09 | Also, I'm going to agree with strikey on this one. Forcing yourself to continue listening to an accliamed band that you don't "get" can sometimes (not always) have huge payoffs. One example for me is Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over the Sea. I listened to it probably twenty times before it clicked and it's now one of my top twenty albums.
That's why I haven't given up on Jane Doe yet. I still don't "get" it. |
Yotimi
08.03.09 | Here are some Radiohead songs to check out that are little more what you're used to based on your album ratings:
Myxamatosis
Wolf At the Door
The Bends
Fake Plastic Trees
Airbag
Black Star
Bodysnatchers
The National Anthem
Then go from there. |

08.26.09 | I think it's more about getting eased into the band than letting them grow. I remember being in grade 7 and a friend told me that Dark Side of the Moon was the greatest record ever. My grade 7 self was into Blink 192 and Sum 41, thus Pink Floyd was too much for me to take.. but a year later after being exposed to more classic rock I loved DSotM.
Same deal with Animal Collective, was shown them two years ago and thought they were way too weird, but after hearing a lot more sample based music (including Kid A) during that time and listening to their latest record this winter I started loving the band.
So I think it's about having bridge or gateway bands, (i.e. A Perfect Circle for Tool) to get you into new music so that your system isn't too shocked. But as for Radiohead, there's already good advice on here to get into them |

12.30.09 | Is it bad If I have never heard a single song by radiohead? |
