Plugging Some Obscure Artists
By obscure artists, I mean ones that either aren't on this site or have barely any ratings. Hopefully I can bring more attention to them with this list. I have eclectic musical tastes (read: I like everything), so this list is a grab bag of metal, electronic, folk, rock, jazz, and even one classical artist here. But mostly metal. |
1 | | Al Namrood Kitab Al-Awthan
Black metal with middle eastern folk influences that creates a neat atmosphere. |
2 | | Altan Urag Made in Altan Urag
Mongolian folk music, with this album having a few rock-like tracks. |
3 | | Amen Orchestra 17 Waves
Orchestra-tinged breakcore, similar to Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Sz?letett. But different, of course. |
4 | | Cai Noche Abierta
Solid progressive rock with Spanish folk elements in it. |
5 | | Cangaco Rastros
Brazilian progressive death metal laden with maracatu elements, creating a very unique sound. That second "c" has a cedilla, but the site doesn't support that character. |
6 | | Cold Fairyland Seeds on the Ground
Chinese folk music tinted with progressive rock influences. |
7 | | Datach'i The Elements
A solid glitch album. |
8 | | Dev/Null Lazer Trash
Probably the best straight-up breakcore that I've heard. |
9 | | Dhafer Youssef Abu Nawas Rhapsody
Interesting and good Arabic jazz. |
10 | | Disaffected Vast
Excellent progressive symphonic death metal. |
11 | | Duobetic Homunkulus Ani ja ani ty robit nebudzeme, sedneme do koca, vozit se budzeme
This is basically the continuation of !T.O.O.H.!, having that band's guitarist. The vocals and drumming are a lot more tame, but the music is as spastic as ever. The album title had some accented characters that weren't showing up properly on the site, so keep that in mind if you're looking for it. |
12 | | Fu Xi In the Quiet Road
Somber Chinese folk metal, essentially being soft doom metal. |
13 | | Gonin-ish Naishikyo-Sekai
Extreme progressive metal from Japan with a female vocalist. They have two amazing albums that hit all of my sweet spots. |
14 | | Guadalquivir Guadalquivir
Progressive rock from Spain that's mixed with Spanish folk music and jazz. |
15 | | Hades Archer For the Diabolical Ages
A damn good slab of blackened thrash. |
16 | | Hiromi Time Control
Probably the least obscure artist on this list, but she needs more love. A very talented pianist that makes some excellent jazz fusion. |
17 | | Kadenzza The Second Renaissance
Symphonic black metal from Japan. Pretty good, unlike most of the subgenre. |
18 | | Kekal 1000 Thoughts of Violence
Solid experimental metal from Indonesia. This album is more progressive metal, but some of their earlier stuff leans more towards black metal. |
19 | | Lantern Subterranean Effulgence
Outstanding death metal that has a real earthen sound. |
20 | | Lunasa Otherworld
Very enjoyable Celtic music. |
21 | | Malek Jandali Echoes from Ugarit
Classical music arranged from some of the oldest recorded music in history. Real neat stuff. |
22 | | Nechochwen Azimuths to the Otherworld
Native American neofolk that has a few minutes of black metal in a mostly folk music album. |
23 | | Necronomicon (CAN) The Sacred Medicines
Superb death metal, though I haven't listened to their recent two albums (their quality could have declined). However, their first two albums are very good, with this being my favorite. |
24 | | Norrin Radd Anomaly
One of the best modern chiptune artists. This album is chiptune death metal, which sounds ridiculous, but its surprising how good this is. His other album, Melodia di Infinita, is traditional chiptune. Both of these albums are free to download. |
25 | | Pandemonium Insomnia
Very enjoyable progressive melodic death metal. |
26 | | Perturbator I am the Night
I was introduced to Perturbator from his songs in the excellent Hotline Miami soundtrack. Fantastic dark '80s-styled electronic music. |
27 | | Quest For Blood Quest for Blood with Yukihiro Isso
Crazy flute metal from Japan. Yes, flute metal: a flute is one of the primary instruments in this bizarre but excellent black/folk metal album. |
28 | | Rudra Brahmavidya: Primordial I
Solid blackened death metal with lots of Indian folk music influences. |
29 | | Chun Xiu (Spring and Autumn) Chun Xiu (Spring and Autumn)
Superb Chinese heavy metal that has many Chinese folk influences in the music. |
30 | | TEE Trans Europe Expression
Excellent progressive rock. |
31 | | Terminal 11 Fractured Sunshine
Another great breakcore artist. |
32 | | Tzolk'in Tonatiuh
Very chill ritual ambient music. |
33 | | Xanopticon Liminal Space
Excellent breakcore mixed with glitch. |
34 | | Xysma Yeah!
Very good death n' roll. |
35 | | Yaotl Mictlan Guerreros de la Tierra de los Muertos
Mexican black metal with occasional Native American music bits thrown in. |
