11.24.09 | Dude classic punk Is the best kind.
Bad Religion were alright, then I got sick of the shit "we hate religion for the sake of it' they have some good tunes, I'll listen every now and the, but they get annoying.
Husker Du, from what i've heard.. are pretty awesome
Old AFI are ok I guess, the others I haven't heard, will look into a few. |

11.24.09 | Still going to rec Bad Religion. Come on, man...you're a huge Green Day fan, you owe Bad Religion big time. Besides, they sing more about Politics than religion, and even then, it's rarely head on that they do it. Only on 'How Could Hell Be Any Worse' and 'The Empire Strikes First' did they sing directly about the politics of the year in more than half the c.d. The rest of their albums are...well, more observational.
Try 'Stranger Than Fiction' or 'The Gray Race' out for size if you haven't yet. Not too much politicking on either one of them at all, really, just some excellent tunes, and a few of their biggest hits. You can move on to bigger and better albums from their.
(I find it's really hard to rec BR, actually). |
Mordecai.
11.24.09 | and "You" is such a great song |

11.24.09 | @masochist ... is there some story about bad religion influencing greenday a la the offspring forming outside of a social distortion concert?

11.24.09 | "Suffer" is pretty socially observant as well.

11.24.09 | Mordecai - That it is...in fact, that very song was what got me into the band so long ago. It was the first song on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 that I discovered I knew all the words to, so I always enjoyed skating to it the most. I looked up the band...the rest is history.
(Funny enough, the second song I learned the words to was "No Cigar," by Millencolin. 'Pennybridge Pioneers', bi-yatch!).
I love seeing this sudden surge of BR talk on all these Punk lists lately. Makes me happy, because sometimes when I'm here, I actually forget that they're my favorite band, and not Thrice or Dredg or Dream Theater or Mae or Porcupine Tree or Mute Math or any of those other bands I rave about much more often.
theacademy - Not sure. I just meant in terms of song structure and harmony/melody within a two-minute punk song. |
Mordecai.
11.24.09 | you like Lagwagon too? |
Masochist
11.24.09 | Mordecai - I do, a bit. Unfortunately, they were one of the bands that sort of got lost in the mess of me trying to find a musical identity, but I can't deny what "May 16th" did for my tastes (there are so many pop-punk bands whom I enjoy now simply because I heard, got used to and liked that song).
HELLO!

11.24.09 | haha I was being a bit harsh on Bad Religion earlier...
I've already had my fair dose of them. ''The Empire Strikes First' was absolutely flawless back in the day (still and awesome record) and the new one had some brilliant tunes.
Stranger than fiction was a bit of a dissapointment but yeah 'you' was a favourite of mine back in the day.
sooo yeah, any classic punk album recs? |
