Favorite Albums Of All Time

The title says it all. I'm quite bored so I thought I would make this just for teh lulz. Actually, I'm quite surprised I haven't already done this but oh well! Here we go!
1Opeth
Blackwater Park

This is considered by many to be Opeth's best album and also by equally as many to be their worst album. I, for one, love this album simply for the fact that it introduced me to the phenomenon that is Opeth. On top of that, it is an absolutely fantastic and well-crafted album that never drags. I honestly don't know why some Opeth fans hate this album. This IS Opeth. It captures everything that Opeth has ever been influenced by and compiles it into one, giving us fantastic songs such as "The Leper Affinity," "Bleak," "The Drapery Falls," and many more. It's just such an amazing album, and that is why it ranks at the top of my list.
2Dream Theater
Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From a Memory

This album marked the introduction of Dream Theater's new keyboardist, Jordan Rudess. It also marked a drastic change in the patented Dream Theater sound. On this album, Dream Theater began to experiment with longer song structures, more exotic tunings, and extremely technical playing that even rivaled their earlier masterpieces like Images and Words. Also, this album was DT's first concept album, and a damn fine one at that. It fulfilled on so many levels, and, for many, this is the album that truly made Dream Theater into the virtuosic powerhouse they are known for today.
3Opeth
Still Life

Songwriting wise, this is my favorite Opeth album. Everything is super polished. The riffs are fantastic, Mikael's singing is phenomenal and light years beyond their earlier work, and the album is just overall fantastic. Not to mention that this is also a concept album, and it, by far, tells the most heart-wrenching story I have ever witnessed from a Death Metal band. However, this album could never make the same huge impact on me like "Blackwater Park" did and that is why it is not ranked #1 on my list. Still, this is a must have and an absolute masterpiece.
4The Mars Volta
De-loused In The Comatorium

The Mars Volta were a band that I long hated. When they first arrived in the scene, I was young and didn't really understand the music. All I knew is that I didn't like it and, therefore, I didn't bother to even give it a chance. Unfortunately, I had made a huge mistake and it took years for me to come across this true gem of an album. This band possesses everything I could ever want from great music: talented instrumentation, impeccable songwriting and extremely catchy vocal patterns. Cedric Bixler, the vocalist, is absolutely phenomenal and makes this album so much better in every way possible. However, the whole band is amazing an every single of the members collaborates to make a masterpiece of an album.
5Dream Theater
Images and Words

This was Dream Theater's first release, and, besides Scenes From a Memory, my absolute favorite by them. On this album, Dream Theater had not quite established the technical wankery that they unleashed on later albums, but, instead, created cohesive and catchy songs that succeeded in being technical and interesting all at the same time. With such classics as "Pull Me Under," "Under A Glass Moon," and "Another Day," this album still stands the test of time and remains an absolute masterpiece.
6Nevermore
This Godless Endeavor

This album was my first experience with Nevermore and it was quite a good one. Beforehand, I didn't know much about Nevermore except for what I had heard in magazines such as Guitar World praising the band and its shredtastic guitarist, Jeff Loomis. However, after picking up This Godless Endeavor and being utterly destroyed by the fantastic opening track "Born," I knew Nevermore would quickly become one of my absolute favorite modern Metal bands.
7Pink Floyd
Animals

There is no question about it, I love the Floyd. They are, in my opinion, the best Progressive Rock band to ever exist and probably will never be topped. For the longest I viewed Dark Side of The Moon to be my favorite of all the Pink Floyd albums until I managed to pick this up. Regardless, this can be considered quite a short album, but it is a fantastic ride, nonetheless. Songs like "Dogs" are the backbone of Progressive Rock and absolute masterpieces that, to me, can never be topped. David Gilmour, the bands genius guitarist, proves once more that he is indeed the man.
8The Beatles
Abbey Road

Up until recently (the last two years), I absolutely hated The Beatles. I heard my dad constantly talking about how wonderful and unique they were but I could never see what truly set them apart or, for that matter, what made them so damn great. Then I picked up Revolver. I loved the album and I quickly became a Beatles fanboy. However, it wasn't until I picked up Abbey Road that I realized how talented The Beatles were. All I can say is check out this album and then tell me if you still think they suck. I doubt you will be able to listen to this album without at least getting one of the genius songs stuck in your mind.
9Protest The Hero
Fortress

Once again, another band that I hated for quite a long time. Protest The Hero grated on my nerves to a degree that I absolutely despised them. I honestly don't know what finally got this band to click for me, but, when it did, holy shit did it ever click! They have since become one of my absolute favorite modern Prog Metal bands, and it's quite a shame more bands don't strive to be this different and unique. However, its probably a good thing, since the originality would soon become stale and old. Many say Kezia is PTH's best, but i, personally, enjoy this one the most, Both are fantastic albums, though. I suggest to anyone with an open mind to all types of music to give this a go because, once you get into it, this is one of the best albums you could ever purchase.
10Strapping Young Lad
Alien

Devon Townsend is an absolute genius. Anyone who knows me knows that I praise the guy. He writes fantastic music and has constructed some of my favorite songs, many of which belong to Alien, one of many of Strapping Young Lad's masterpiece albums. Many prefer City to this album, but, while I absolutely love that album, I believe this makes up in production. Still, the Dev manages to write some of the heaviest songs I have ever heard in my life, all the while keeping them catchy and fun to listen to. Alien is a masterpiece and should not be seen as anything less.
