Screamo You Slept On (probably)

Or you were too young to know about I guess, here's some bands that I feel are generally overlooked by screamo fans these days.
1 Mihai Edrisch
L'uns Sans L'autre

Mihai Edrisch is better known for their newer material over the past decade or so, after they changed their name, and gradually their style from screamo, to black metal, to black metal and doom influenced whatever: this is Celeste's original material when they were a straight-forward Envy-esque screamo band. It's far superior to Celeste in my opinion, but like, whatever man. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKzLeVZgxt0
2Yage
3-17 October 1984

Yage were a very powerful German screamo band, I will say this album differs from their other well known (at one point on the internet) full length (Anders Leben?!) quite a bit, where Anders Leben?! was somewhat sing-songy, 3-17 October... is more chaotic and overall, an example of its timeframe (early '00s). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZPoya8cKQE
3The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra
Create The New

Another classic German band, The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra took ques from Orchid and Louise Cyphre before them, like, you can hear it heavily. Really really good emoviolence, they actually did a really tight split with Louise Cyphre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7zoB2aXDas
4Aghast
Polaroid

Aghast was a brilliant French band from last decade, they had a very heavily pop punk influenced sound, and just an overall more upbeat and catchy sound than most French screamo. They did a reunion show last summer and I saw the flyer, and they got fucking Daitro to come out of their sour ass hiatus/break up mood to play it, that's how sweet Aghast is. OMG I UPLOADED THIS VID http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsrzfTi65K0
5 Amanda Woodward
L'Assaut

Amanda Woodward was the band that turned me on to European screamo, so they hold a very big place in my heart. I feel like they were talked about a lot in like 2007 when La Decadence De La Decadence came out, and then people immediately forgot about them. It's fast moving, punky emotive hardcore that just catches you, kind of like Aghast but not quite as catchy and more traditional sounding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3dieiCZSzE
6Belle Epoque
A La Derive

Oh wow, yet another amazing French band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3dieiCZSzE
7Score One For Safety
Yoni

I mean I hyped the shit out of this band over my time on Sputnik, but seriously, this is a post rock/skramz hybrid that DOESN'T sound like Envy remotely. Some of the shriekiest vocals ever, and just overall moving melodies. The horn section in "You're Never Too Old To Burn To Death In A Fire," is absolute gold. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQSL_1UPHYw
8Mesa Verde
Amor Fati

Mesa Verde received minimal attention when their last full length (The Long Road) came out, and then the minimal hype immediately wore off, but these Scottish fucks really pulled some cathartic gems out of their flasks or whatever Scottish people drink from. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s2pWp4MKws
9In First Person
Lost Between Hands Held Tight

In First Person is such a good example of chaotic American screamo from back in the day, their vocals are some of the most intense shit ever, and their farewell show is on youtube in poor quality and their singer is wearing a white visor so it's very late '90s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3osmAyowsc
10Polemarch
A Static Future

Polemarch is (was? I can't tell via Facebook) a really good band from Finland. It's somewhere in between Russian and French screamo stylistically, and sort of its own thing. The title track on this EP is like, woe dood, woe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeRMnxV3QAQ
11Birds State Of Soul
Birds State Of Soul

I started hyping these guys like a year before they broke up, pretty bummed about that, but I will continue to hype because they absolutely killed. ????????? ???? was a really melodic, kind of crusty sounding Russian screamo band with amazing violin interludes, there's tons of awesome videos of them playing shows with other current Eastern Euroviolence bands like Mayak, Minaret, Date Rape, Sen Deni, and what not on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4Mj5zgLoso
12 Louise Cyphre
Wenn wir menschen

Previously mentioned them under The Apoplexy Twist Orchestra, God these dudes ruled. They're like the German Orchid. My perpetual answer to "Wie gehts" in German class in high school: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jak-41mo0Es
13Jet Black
The Dead End

Oh wow, ANOTHER German band. Jet Black had their own interesting take on intense-yet melodic European styled screamo, unfortunately I'm pretty sure they only put out two EPs unfortunately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Nt2TsYm0AI
14September 22nd
Hello, Throne

September 22nd, yet another staple of the Mappy hype machine. It's stoner screamo, it's fucking groovy and it's fucking cathartic, these dudes blew my mind in 2007 when this came out, and I've consistently listened since. The vocals are very reminiscent of As Cities Burn, but with more harshness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFfaUpHwQGY
15 Madeline Ferguson
A Long Walk With No Return

Madeline Ferguson was a very outspoken screamo band from Florida, they were a bit sloppy, but they made up for it with their willingness to address subjects other people didn't want to openly talk about. Example, being a song off their split with Bury Me Standing entitled "Dio Said It Best, You Were A Rainbow In The Dark" which is very explicitly about a rape case. They have so much feeling, it really stands out in this genre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPw1dRvQxMo
16 Kite Flying Society
Discography

Another awesome Florida skramz band from back in the day, I think one of the guys is in some bad like club music project now, but God damn these guys bring the feel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZdCE8kkTSI
17 Vincent Price's Orphan Powered Death Machine
Murder On The Mixtape

Pennsylvania's finest emo violence, period. Dudes had three vocalists and never really played outside of Lancaster that I noticed, or at least they never played in the Lehigh Valley which is disappointing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2v2qRSFSno
18Love Lost But Not Forgotten
Upon The Right, I Saw A New Misery

These guys were hyped a lot when I first started getting into screamo, but this was like ten years ago, and I've noticed that a lot of my friends who've been into this stuff actually didn't know about them, so maybe it was just on MX/Sputnik, but like, this is THE MOST accurate portrayal of depression in music to ever exist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aEvXWJgWvM
19Kaddish
Kaddish

Kaddish is another overlooked Scottish gem, where Mesa Verde made waves being traditionally exceptional screamo, Kaddish had this strangely unique way of composing their songs that were lengthy, slow paced, and absolutely moving. A lot of great transitions from harder parts to clean parts, and very good dual vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-oE0mUE0A
20Dominic
Nord

Everyone knows Suis La Lune, not a lot of people remember the similar Norwegian band they used to play with (still do?), in my opinion Dominic was overall a better band, but they never put out anything that can touch Heir, still very much worth checking out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bv-oE0mUE0A
