03.15.09 | The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady is my favorite jazz album.
apart from that:
more Chalres Mingus (Mingus Ah Um, Pithecanthropus Erectus ...)
much more Miles Davis (the man has put out too many awesome albums to be counted anymore)
Ornette Coleman - The Shape of Jazz to Come
Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Sunset Mission ("funeral jazz" which means jazz played in some kind of doom metal way)
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme and Blue Train
Electric Masada - At the Mountains of Madness (the most insane jazz fusion record that can possibly exist)
Herbie Hancock - Empyrean Isles
Bar Kokhba - 50th Birthday Celebration Volume Eleven
Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire (jazz fusion again)
Medeski, Martin & Wood - Combustication (kinda hippiesque jazz)
John Zorn - Kristallnacht
... and many more John Zorn albums like Naked City, Elegy, The Circle Maker or some of his other bands like PainKiller, Naked City and so on... all very experimental but worth the praise. |

03.16.09 | Ugh Headhunters. If you're going to listen to Herbie Hancock check out Maiden Voyage and then maybe Empyrean Isles. |
TheGreatD17
03.22.09 | Headhunters is great but it's almost more of a funk/soul album than jazz, so go with Maiden Voyage if that's what you're looking for. If you're interested in some modern jazz, I'm particularly fond of Donald Harrison's The Survivor and Christian Scott's The Anthem. |
