PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | hahaha, yeah, Green Day was THE shit on drums back then. Fast paced, energetic...once I learned enough GD, I graduated to Blink, System, and 311.
I was also very nerdy back then, so I would try to play a lot of video game songs on the keyboard, mainly anything by Nobuo Uematsu (TRY to play)
Thanks for this list, by the way, you bring up so many good memories of me on my uncle's computer downloading every artist I could think of and try to drum it out, sneaking onto my brother's set while he was at work |
Waior
05.22.09 | Speaking of nerdy, I'm wanting to learn the Office theme song... |

05.22.09 | it's not a problem, and even now, i have a personal battle when it comes to covering songs or just writing songs; do i cover/make a song that demands concentrations so i can barely move around while playing? or do i pick a song full of power chords, so i can do vice versa. still troubles me.
totally forgot, about blink; those guys were so awesome to play on any instrument (maybe not bass, cause would be boring as hell). |
bloc
05.22.09 | arrrgggggh, that accordian/organ thing in the office theme is so annoying! |
Waior
05.22.09 | nah it rules

05.22.09 | We have some musical savants in here if their FIRST song was Fade to Black and More than a Feeling. Not that those are really difficult, but for a first song?? |
kitsch
05.22.09 | idk the guitar just makes sense to me. i just picked it up and knew what to do. five years of piano mightve helped tho |
PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | Guitar was the easiest instrument to learn for me, second easiest was the alto sax
Damn marimba though...that's some hardcore stuff |
KILL
05.22.09 | easiest to learn was drums for me, i've never had a drum kit and drum really well (fear factory double bass stuff) its all through air drumming and tapping the floor with my feet hahaha |
Yotimi
05.22.09 | Yeah, drumming comes much easier for me. But I probably won't ever be able to do the polyrythmic Meshuggah stuff. |
kitsch
05.22.09 | drums are the one thing i could never get down
its not because i cant keep a rhythm. after years as a rhythm guitarist in bands, im a human click track. idk why |
opblaaskonijn
05.22.09 | Drums:
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer.
Gorillaz - 19/2000 |

Waior
05.22.09 | " after years as a rhythm guitarist in bands, im a human click track."
I know kind of what you mean. When I first started drumming, I couldn't control my right foot from just pounding on the bass drum on every beat -- because as a guitarist, I just tapped my foot all the time. And that translates badly into drumming... haha.
So I had to spend a long time trying to seperate my feet from my hands. |
PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | ^^ That's right, actually |
PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | I meant YouAreMySilence but Waior is also right |
PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | In all of the 10 or so years I've been playing drums, you don't realize how difficult it actually is until you major in percussion in college.
It's probably the most fun instrument, but you really have to know what you're doing |
Phantom
05.22.09 | The whole of Metallica's black album I believe. Started with Enter Sandman then carried on through. Oh and Johnny Cash's version of Hurt. |
Waior
05.22.09 | Drumming is definitely the most fun. Rhythm is just so great and you CONTROL the rest of the band. Power tripping is beautiful. Dynamic, dynamic, dynamic... |
PuddleSwimmer
05.22.09 | All I hear all over campus is that "rhythm is the number one problem among modern aspiring musicians" So I GLAD I learned it when I did
When we were looking for a bassist back then, the first thing we asked was if they've ever had any experience playing drums.
The guy we have now has. He's the grooviest and funkiest dude I've ever heard |
rotterdog
05.22.09 | Green Day - Good Riddance (guitar)
Jimmy Eat World - Caution (Drums) |
Waior
05.22.09 | Oh man, so agree about the bassist. If I can't lock in with a bassist (or if I'm bassing and can't lock in with the drummer) the sound ultimately suffers from it. The bass is part of the rhythm section. |
YouAreMySilence
05.22.09 | Jimmy Eat World - Cautioners is n amazing song but fricken hard to play on drums.
I used to be able to play It's Natural To Be Afraid be EITS btw I really like playing Post Rock on the drums. |
rotterdog
05.22.09 | Well i never learned how to play it well on drums. |
YouAreMySilence
05.22.09 | It's alright me neither but I'm really average so w/e. |
