| 10 Great Vocalists
10 vocalists that I've always considered a cut above the rest. | | 1 | Trent Reznor
Let's get right down to it... Most lists that I create will have something NIN on them. Reznor is probably my favourite ever, from his screams to his whispers, his swagger to his voice cracks, I can't get enough of him. Best performance- Hurt. | | 2 | Kurt Cobain
Much better voice than Dave Grohl, it must be said. His voice has a few very unexpected twists to it sometimes and his Unplugged performance is more than enough to convince me. Best performance: Where Did You Sleep Last Night? | | 3 | Dio
Simply put, one of the best metal vocalists ever. Black Sabbath were at their best with him, and he was a God on his own as well. Best performance: Don't Talk To Strangers. | | 4 | Peter Gabriel
Beats Phil Collins in pretty much every way. Genesis just weren't the same without him, I gotta give him credit. Best performance: Anything off The Lamb or Peter Gabriel 3. | | 5 | Layne Staley
Yes, he did go on a slump towards the end of his career, but who can honestly blame him? His earlier performances are some of the best in grunge, if not in heavy rock full stop. Best peformances: Rooster (Alice In Chains) or Wake Up (by Mad Season) | | 6 | Liam Gallagher
Easily the more bearable personality of the two Gallaghers, and the best vocalist as well. One of the definitive rock/pop vocalists. Best performance: D'you Know What I Mean? | | 7 | Thom Yorke
No doubt about it, Yorke is a complete cut above the norm. Muse never had anything on Radiohead, and Yorke may well be the reason why. Not to mention his lyrics! Best performance: Everything In It's Right Place, 2+2=5 or Karma Police. | | 8 | Maynard James Keenan
All his attempts to draw focus off of himself simply make him look better. His folk-influenced voice most commonly seen with A Perfect Circle is probably his best, but his angry vocals are only edged out by a margin. One of the best lyricists I've heard, certainly. Best performance: The Outsider or The Grudge. | | 9 | David Gilmour
He puts more emotion into his guitar, to be fair, but ever since I heard Wish You Were Here, he's been one of my heroes and greatest influences, both vocally and on guitar. Best peformance: Wish You Were Here. | | 10 | James LaBrie
Yes, it's true. I honestly don't see what's wrong with his vocals, I can't see anyone denying that he is definitely a good singer at core at the very least. Without him, Dream Theater just wouldn't be the same, his high vocals have lead to that famous love/hate relationship with fans, but I have to put myself FAR on the love side. Best performance: Pull Me Under. | |

09.13.08 | 6 is a joke surely? | Spamue1G
09.13.08 | 6 is a joke if you don't like Oasis. Fact is, he was awarded best rock vocalist of the past 25 years by some magazine. Seriously, his vocals have got to be one of the few reasons I actually listen to Oasis. | BallsToTheWall
09.13.08 | Danzig. | AmnesiacR
09.13.08 | The lack of Freddie Mercury is very sad.
But all your other choices were very good, especially 6, 7, 8, and 9.
Good list. | PayneTiger777
09.13.08 | I actually didn't think that Kurt Cobain was that great as a vocalist. | Spamue1G
09.13.08 | Just to clarify- This isn't ALL my favourite vocalists, just the 10 that came to mind immediately. I'm surprised I didn't put Mercury on there as well, seeing as I really like Queen, especially Mercury. Not everyone is gonna agree with Kurt Cobain, of course, but I don't mind that. I'm an unneccesarily big fan of Nirvana, so it's no surprise I'd say that, really. | Thor
09.13.08 | Needs less LaBrie. Dude kinda ruins the band for me. | bastard
09.13.08 | 1 no
6 hell no. | AliW1993
09.13.08 | 2, 5 and 6 are great choices
| kaospilot
09.13.08 | daryl palumbo told me he shud be here | bustyagunz
09.13.08 | needs more people who aren't old enough to be my daddy. | foreverendeared
09.13.08 | desperately needs Freddy Mercury | Spamue1G
09.13.08 | Thing is, I don't wanna remove any of them. At a push, maybe Gabriel or Dio, but the others are solid place on the list. Alright, here it is officially- Number 11: Freddie Mercury. | bastard
09.13.08 | dude get rid of #1. | marksellsuswallets
09.13.08 | DIO FTW!!! | Spamue1G
09.13.08 | Dude, I am absolutely never gonna get rid of number 1. Reznor's my idol. NOBODY can perform Hurt like Reznor, I truly believe he is one of the best vocalists ever, let alone producers and innovators. Just listen to Hurt. Where else can you find that kind of emotion? But hell yeah, Dio is F*CKIN AWESOME! | bastard
09.13.08 | Yeah but Reznor has like two good albums and then he fell off. Also, Kurt Cobain is a joke. | TheStarclassicTreatment
09.14.08 | 1 is good
2 sucks
3 is great
4 is great
5 is great
6 HA!
7 is Ok
8 is ok
9 rules
10 rules (but you'll be flamed) | Anthracks
09.14.08 | boring | bastard
09.14.08 | no Labrie is an excellent vocalist, but he doesn't fit Dream Theater at all. | Spamue1G
09.14.08 | I don't understand why people think Reznor fell off. I like Year Zero about as much as Broken, which is saying A LOT. But then again, I don't understand why people think LaBrie doesn't fit Dream Theater, so meh. | Perplexion
07.18.12 | where's Chris Cornell and William Duvall? XD | KjSwantko
07.18.12 | James LaBrie? Da fuq. He has sucked dick the entire DT discog; he was half-decent on his solo releases....but still. |
