| Where Should I Start?
I've been looking to get into these bands, and I need to a good starting point. Any other recommendations would be welcome, as well, along with a starting point. | 1 | Opeth
Already got Blackwater Park, but I thought it was too brutal for an introduction to them. Maybe I just need to listen to it more, but are there any slightly more balanced Opeth albums that would work as an introduction? | 2 | In Flames
I wasn't too sure about what I heard of The Jester Race, but any one of the other albums would be welcome. | 3 | Underoath
A couple of songs have begun to grow on me, but I'm still unsure where to start. Bearing in mind that I (shamefully, I know) find the more typical metal side of metalcore more enjoyable, as well. | 4 | Screaming Trees
Been looking to get into them, I like what I've heard. Where to start though... | 5 | Protest The Hero
Basically same as above. | 6 | The Mars Volta
I really need a final decision on this one, I'm still completely unsure. Frances or De-Loused? Or any of the others, maybe? | 7 | AFI
Absolutely no idea where to start with them, but they sound very interesting. Preferably not something too inaccessible. | |

11.04.08 | Give Blackwater Park another shot.
In Flames - Clayman
Underoath - Define the Great Line
Protest the Hero - Kezia
Mars Volta - Deloused
AFI - Art of Drowning/Sing the Sorrow.

11.04.08 | Opeth: Ok, so if Blackwater Park wasn't your cup of tea, I doubt you'll like Opeth, but if you want to try more then I suggest Still Life or Damnation.
Protest the Hero: Both of their albums are very good. I liked Fortress over Kezia, but many people feel the opposite way.
AFI: Sing the Sorrow was where I started, then I got the Art of Drowning. They are both as good as the other.

11.04.08 | Opeth - Still Life I guess. Blackwater Park is amazing..
Protest the Hero - Kezia
Mars Volta - Deloused is your best bet.
AFI - Sing the Sorrow, imo. | AliW1993
11.04.08 | Theres a Screaming Trees compilation called Ocean of Confusion, get that then their studio albums. Thats how I got into them | willfellmarsy
11.04.08 | 1-Listen to Disillusion-Back to Times of Splendor...same-ish genre but much more accessible/better imo and since ur a SOAD fan, ul love the clean vocals
5-Kezia
6-De-Loused but start wit Relationship of Command by At the Drive-In to familiarize yourself with them/it's a good bridge/everyone loves that album
7-Sing the Sorrow | Spamue1G
11.04.08 | Just to say, it's not that I necessarily dislike Blackwater Park, it was just a liyyle too heavy for an introduction, it kinda blows my head off when I try to listen. I might try Still Life, then. | Hewitt
11.04.08 | Art of Drowning for AFI, one of my favorite cd's. If you also want something less accesible by them try out Black Sails In The Sunset or for something shorter the All Hallow's EP. | Hewitt
11.04.08 | Sorry I'm an idiot, read that wrong. I'd say go with Sing the Sorrow in that case. Still accessible but retains more hints of their past work than Decemberunderground. | Spamue1G
11.04.08 | ^Haha, that's fine. I'll get Sing The Sorrow tomorrow. | Ricven
11.04.08 | Screaming Trees - Sweet Oblivion
The Mars Volta - De-loused | Captain North
11.04.08 | In Flames...actually, I suggest Come Clarity or Soundtrack To Your Escape, purely because they're more accessible than they're early albums.
Underoath - Lost In The Sound of Separation
Protest - Kezia. Fortress is just a rehash. | fprock
02.22.09 | 3- Define The Great Line
6- Amputechture or The Bedlam In Goliath |
