Below is a list of under-the-radar albums from the past decade that I've enjoyed. It's by no means comprehensive. My criteria for defining "obscure" in this case was 30 or fewer votes in 2019, 50 or fewer votes any previous year. I also enforced a 3.5 average rating to curb personal bias. I hope this helps you find some lesser-known gems as we close in on the final month of the 2010's.
List is skewed towards the present because I started paying more attention to under the radar stuff in late 2016/early 2017. Also I did the best I could with RIYL, if I didn't have a great comparison off the top of my head and the band page didn't list any similar artists, then I just left it blank.
Thanks! I don't expect many of these to be AOTD contenders or anything, they're just albums I rated highly that also had 3.5+ avgs and not very many votes. It's the kind of list I'd skim and maybe sample some stuff that looks intriguing, then go from there if it floats your boat. You might like Lucero (country rock) and a lot of the female-fronted indie rock types.
Thanks. I think the list is inherently biased because I used my own ratings to guide what made the list, but hopefully the bias is curbed by the fact that a 3.5 avg is required. Will inevitably be some hits and misses on here for anyone.
Only a small handful of these I recognise, but the ones I know I adore (especially 30, 47, 61 & 74) so will definitely check some out. Also haven't thought about The Spill Canvas since an emo phase in the mid 2000's, amazed to see them here and v curious how they've evolved
