R.e.m. - From Awesome To Pretty Damn Bad
Basically a list of my ranking of the R.E.M. albums which I feel may be rcontroversial because of my unashamed love for Up. |
1 | | R.E.M. Automatic For The People
I know it's an obvious choice but this album is beautiful. Lush production
and each song is faultless. |
2 | | R.E.M. Murmur
Lo-fi post-punk and poptastic. Catchy like the flu. |
3 | | R.E.M. Document
This album rocks. Great political songs and memorable pop songs. |
4 | | R.E.M. Up
I just love every song on this album and the overall depressing atmosphere
that pervades every listen. |
5 | | R.E.M. Accelerate
A great, modern, short rock album that bristles with the energy of a band
revived. As if Bill Berry had rejoined the band |
6 | | R.E.M. Reckoning
Contains the post punk lo fi awesomeness of their debut and also hints at
the more acoustic approach they would take in the future. Top Quality. |
7 | | R.E.M. Fables of the Reconstruction
Continues their fine first few albums, but beginning to get a little samey.
Great songs though so it gets a high chart position! |
8 | | R.E.M. Monster
Never understood why this album gets so much flak. I rarity in R.E.M.'s
catalogue as its dirty and filthy sounding. Very grunge. |
9 | | R.E.M. Lifes Rich Pageant
I'll probably get ass fucked for this but I feel that R.E.M. were getting a little
stale by this album, luckily Document came next to kick everyone in the ass. |
10 | | R.E.M. New Adventures in Hi - Fi
This album gets loads of praise, but i don't get it. I find it overlong and
boring in places. Does however contain some classics "How the West Was
Won", "Electrolite", "E-Bow the Letter", "New Test Leper" and "The Wake-
Up Bomb". |
11 | | R.E.M. Out of Time
Contains the classic "Losing My Religion" but the album feels disjointed and
the rest of the songs are kinda sucky. |
12 | | R.E.M. Green
There's a couple of great songs here "World Leader Pretend", "Orange
Crush" but the album is all over the place stylistically and seems more like a
compilation than anything else |
13 | | R.E.M. Reveal
Some high points such as "Imitation of Life", "I've Been High" and "The
Lifting" but overall the songs aren't very memorable and the electronics on
the album are not for my tastes. |
14 | | R.E.M. Around The Sun
This album has little redeeming qualities. Leaving New York is ok. The
electronic elements on the album sound very dated to me and the rap was
a very bad idea. Sounds like a band gone stale; devoid of ideas. |
