01.30.09 My Top 10 Favorite Covers - Round 207.16.08 My Top 10 Favorite Covers

My Top 10 Favorite Covers

My top 10 favorite cover songs in order. I only picked songs if I had heard the original version as well.
1The Devil Wears Prada
Still Fly

Big Tymers cover. Off of "Punk Goes Crunk". I just love the emphasis on the chorus with the clean vocs and the screamed out verses. The clean vocals are so epic. I heard this song the day Punk Goes Crunk came out and I still love it. It stays true to the original yet sounds so different.
2Bring Me The Horizon
Eyeless

Slipknot cover. Off of "Kerrang Higher Voltage". This is actually my favorite BMTH song. I just think they took the Slipknot version and pumped everything up, it really makes Slipknot's version look like it was made by small children.
3Goodnight Nurse
Milkshake

Kelis cover. Off of the single "Our Song". Basically, Goodnight Nurse took a shit song and made it awesome haha. For a little pop punk band they make this song pretty bad ass, it's probably their heaviest song.
4The Agony Scene
Paint It, Black

The Rolling Stones cover. Off of "The Agony Scene". I have heard many covers of this song (God and Helloween have notable covers), but this one is my favorite. What I like about this version is how they don't abuse the signature "Paint It, Black guitar lick" like so many other covers. The screaming also fits the song surprisingly well. The song has epic build up.
5A Day to Remember
Since U Been Gone

Kelly Clarkson cover. Off of "For Those Who Have a Heart (Re-issue)". Another case of taking a song and totally pumping it up. They take a pop song and make it enjoyable for fans of rock and heavier music. There is only a little bit of screaming but the screaming that is there just makes the song that much heavier.
6Sonic Syndicate
All About Us

t.A.T.u. cover. Off of "Only Inhuman". Ok, I'm not gonna lie, I heard this version before the original and after I heard this version I couldn't handle listening to the original. This version has so much more to it then the original and is much heavier yet still manages to stay catchy.
7Killswitch Engage
Holy Diver

Dio cover. Off of "Kerrang High Voltage". Wow, this is the song that introduced me and essentially got me into KsE. I don't want to offend any old school metal fans but all I can say is that this cover makes the original sound so mellow and bland. Howards Jones totally pulled off the vocs in this one.
8I Set My Friends On Fire
Crank Dat (Cavalry Boy)

Soulja Boy cover. Off of www.isetmyfriendsonfire.com. Well lets put it this way, what can be worse than Souja Boy? ISMFOF is a 2 piece, what would you call it, rap-metalcore band? Haha I dunno, they made this song pretty intense and the breakdown at the end is heavy as hell.
9Raintime
Beat It

Michael Jackson cover. Off of "Flies & Lies". Took this classic Jackson son and turned it into a metal classic. Stayed true to the original but made it more accessible to fans of other genres of music.
10Say Anything
Got Your Money

Ol' Dirty Bastard cover. Off of "Punk Goes Crunk". This is freaking hilarious. The original is a already a funny song, but you feed this stuff to Max Bemis and you have a instant classic. It almost comes across as a parody but that's just how Max is.
