tombits
12.22.09 | haven't read the book yet, although i need to for literature next year. from what i've heard, it's going to be an awesome read. |
Bfhurricane
12.22.09 | I've heard a lot of awesome things about the movie, definitely plan on seeing it soon. Right after I see Avatar though. |
Zoo
12.22.09 | I've struggled not to give The Sea and the Bells a 5 on numerous occasions. |
iranscam
12.22.09 | Book was really good though far from McCarthy's best. I'm not expecting much from the movie. |
thebhoy
12.22.09 | gonna see the movie when it gets to my neck of the woods. Pretty sure I'm getting the book for Christmas, but if not then I'm buying it. |
YouAreMySilence
12.22.09 | I remember Program Music I being quite excellent, though that was before I got into anything classical so I need to give it another listen.
Will be sure to give the rest a listen asap.
And djanus you calling Cormac Mccarthy shitt makes you an obvious troll.
I had to go to a remote theatre in Calgary to see it, which is odd because it was advertised quite well.
Yah Burn2Burn, it's probably gonna be even better when it comes to dvd, cause the movie is acually an experiance. Like it's one of the only movies that acually had the same effect as listening through some of my favorite records, if that makes sense.
Any other recs would be much appreciated.

12.22.09 | And ilu. |
Dotcommy
12.22.09 | What I don't understand is the book was purposely vague and nondescript to correspond with the bleak gray post apocalyptic world. But the movie looks like a typical Hollywood action/disaster film. How is it good? |
Homewrecker
12.22.09 | Like all of McCarthy's other work, can't touch Blood Meridian. But it was pretty good. |
qwe3
12.22.09 | you needa watch more movies man |

01.25.10 | Dr. Strangelove and La Grande Illusion. Watch those. |
TricksterGRex
01.25.10 | the average person probably couldnt handle la grande illusion tbh |
JWT155
01.25.10 | The movie was depressing as fuck. |
ninjuice
01.25.10 | So is Requiem For a Dream... |
thebhoy
01.25.10 | Requiem For a Dream is overrated. Trainspotting is a better film about similar themes.
And yeah La Grande Illusion probably isn't for the average movie goer, but it isn't overly artsy, which is why I like Renoir so much. He always manages to make this technically intricate, layered pieces into a relatively accessible package. Plus Jean Gabin is amazing, so yeah. |
ninjuice
01.25.10 | "Requiem For a Dream is overrated."
Not at all. |
thebhoy
01.25.10 | yeah, I shouldn't have used "overrated", I hate that word. I just find that it turns the characters into caricatures instead of human beings, taking away from the effect, but I'm in the minority in this opinion, I know. Until the Wrestler (though I haven't seen Pi) I don't think Aronovsky knew how to handle a story and a lot of his films felt like they were from someone just out of film school. |
ninjuice
01.25.10 | That would be one hell of a film school. |
thebhoy
01.25.10 | hahaha, no what I mean by that is that he uses a lot of trickery and whatnot instead of good story telling/filmmaking. Though, he really corrected and balanced his technical abilities with a well constructed narrative on The Wrestler, and it resulted in his best film, imo. |
Greggers
01.25.10 | Pulp Fiction > every other film ever |
ninjuice
01.25.10 | Requiem is his best but I'm fine with everyone acknowledging Aronofsky rules. |
Wizard
01.25.10 | Funny I saw the title to this list because I'm seeing the movie tonight hahahaha. |
YouAreMySilence
01.25.10 | Nice bro! |
tombits
02.08.10 | Hunted down this list to say it's an incredibly beautiful film... some of the most stunning cinematography I've seen. |
