Best Of 2010...so Far
It's a bit early to say all of these albums will be on my top ten of 2010 rcome Dec. 31, but I've really enjoyed these a lot. I can't find a decent r#10, so hopefully I'll find something with the remaining month and a rhalf. Recommendations are welcome. |
1 | | Jason Moran Ten
He won a MacArthur "genius" grant this year...and he absolutely deserves it.
Probably one of my favorite jazz albums. |
2 | | Oceansize Self Preserved While the Bodies Float Up
It's a difficult listen, but it pays off in the end. After their 'Home and Minor' EP,
I was craving something heavier from them...and Self Preserved really brings it. |
3 | | The Pineapple Thief Someone Here Is Missing
I think this is the first album The Pineapple Thief really coalesced into something
great. It's a great, complete album. |
4 | | Circa Survive Blue Sky Noise
I've never listened to them before this album, but it's been my most recent dig.
"Get Out" is a fantastic song...love a vocalist who is willing to just destroy his
vocal chords like that. |
5 | | Jukebox the Ghost Everything Under the Sun
It's a nice example of a great pop album that is cheap or entirely unoriginal.
The melody of "Carrying" has been stuck in my head for about 2 months. |
6 | | Deftones Diamond Eyes
It's just so good. It may be up there with 'White Pony'. Great mix of
aggression, beauty, and 20 years of experience. |
7 | | Anathema We're Here Because We're Here
The most original Anathema album ever. They build on their older sound, while
picking up the tempo and adding some energy and excitement. |
8 | | Cloudkicker Beacons
Close to my favorite album of the year, and definitely the one I respect the
most. That someone can sit in a house after work and come up with something
that sounds this good is astonishing. |
9 | | Karnivool Sound Awake
I love this album in a similar way that I love Tool's 'Lateralus'. There is just so
much to listen to, and listening to it is an experience. They incorporate a lot of
progressive ideas, but none of it sounds forced. I know it was released in 2009
in other countries, but here in the States, it's my premature pick for album of
the year. |
