I've sat for 6-8 hours - in any other context that's torture. There is definitely something spiritual about the pain though. Ink definitely complicates employment, be aware. I wore long sleeve dress shirts on 100 degree days at my previous job b/c ppl there were just too close-minded to risk rep hit.

coleba 07.18.11	No, doesn't surprise me at all, and I'm not one who views it as some big injustice, it's more funny honestly. @Anarchist It's not really specific incidents. You just have to have the foresight in certain settings to realize that having them out in the open is going to ostracize you, especially when it comes to high-powered corporate contacts from an older generation. You want every asset available and ink, the majority of the time, is not one.
omnipanzer 07.18.11	IMO it depends on the content of the tats and whether or not you work with the public/customers. If you work in IT then who gives a shit. But employers are not going to waste money and time doing a case by case examination of everyone who has tats when it was a choice to get them at all. I know it sucks but I see both sides.

omnipanzer 07.18.11	The best was when I was a utility worker the rules were no exposed piercings, no exposed ink and no long hair (all for safety but it was old boy system as well). One of the guys who was an in field trainer had hair down to his butt but no one ever knew because he kept it up in a hat at all times. I'd known the guy for like 4 years before he wiped it out in the field one day. I almost shit my pants... he just kind of looked at me and went shhh. It was funny as shit because he was just so clean cut you'd never have known.
