I love this album. It wasn't the first DT album I ever heard, but it's the one I always come back to. I enjoy even the weaker songs ("Never Enough" gets a lot of hate, but it's one of my favorites from the album), and the strong songs are among the best the band has ever produced (specifically the title track, which is my favorite DT song of all). Despite not listening to DT near as much nowadays, my rating still stands.

This was one of first three albums I ever bought with my own money, and definitely the most aggressive. I channeled my high school angst through songs like "Last Year's Nest" and "Bathory's Sainthood," and the band helped ease me into heavier music. But that was something like 15 years ago; I haven't listened to this album in full in years. Honestly probably a 4.5 purely for the nostalgia factor.
3He Is Legend
It Hates You

He Is Legend is an all-time band for me--I've been there since the beginning, and I'm still here now. I constantly go back and forth between this and 'I Am Hollywood' as to which is my favorite (I can acknowledge that the latter is more consistent). "Dicephalous," "Stranger Danger," "Future's Bright Man," "China White III" all rank in the upper echelon of HIL's catalogue, and of all their albums, this is the one I've listened to the most. Still do, so the rating stands.

Nothing is a band that I can put on at any time, under any mood, and I'll be into it. This is usually the album I land on. I've listened to it over and over, and it hasn't gotten old yet. I suppose that means that the rating is still a hard 4.5.

Starflyer is one of those bands that I consider "mine"--a band that is very underground, but that has been incredibly influential in shaping my tastes. 'Dial M' saw them briefly resurface into general consciousness long removed from their (his) shoegaze heyday, and this album is definitely more indie than fuzz. It's definitely one of my favorites by the band, but I have more than one 4.5 from them. I think of those, this one has the biggest chance of me dropping the rating, but that's still unlikely. Too much nostalgia.
6Bad Religion
The Empire Strikes First

Bad Religion has the biggest claim to "band of my life"--I can't outright call them my favorite now, but they were my favorite for such a huge part of my life that it's more like they've been retired to Emeritus. Like the first nominee for the Masochist Music Hall of Fame. And this album was the first one released after I became a full-fledged fan, and the first one I got to be excited for. Good thing it's also one of their best since their 80's classics. It's absolutely still a 4.5 for me.

Transcendence

The best DTP album since 'Addicted', the one that got me into them. Devin Townsend is the musician I respect the most, and this album was such a great showcase of his more serious side after the silliness of Z2 and the quiet somberness of Casualties of Cool. This is not where anyone should start with Devin, but for someone like me, this is what I wanted to hear from him. Still a 4.5, though I can see it maybe moving down to 4 sometime in the far future.

I know 'El Cielo' is THE album for most people (and also where a lot of us first heard the term "sleep paralysis"), but while it is an outstanding collection of music, the atmosphere is so heavy and melancholic. This album that followed it, on the other hand, is buoyant and joyful, with that bright lime green cover and songs like "Ode to the Sun." I appreciated the complete 180 they made--the album succeeds at making me happy no matter what the situation--but dredg as a band is one that I haven't listened to in ages, so perhaps this might go back to a 4.

The Heart Is a Monster

Failure is a band that, like Nothing, I can put on at any time and enjoy the mess out of. Also similar to Nothing, I come back to this album time and time again, and it hasn't gotten old. Still a fairly hard 4.5.

Joey absolutely earned this 4.5 from me. This album helped get me through a tumultuous time in my life where my car had died and I worked at a near-minimum-wage job clear across town from where I lived. I listened to it front to back, and the jazzy, 90's throwback beats perfectly encapsulated the mood I had while riding the bus to work. I'm in a much better place now, but B4.DA.$$ reminds me what I went through and how far I've come, and if it wasn't for it leaning a little too heavy into the 90's, it'd probably be a 5.

The Process of Belief

See the description for 'The Empire Strikes First' for my thoughts on the band. While that album was the one I got to be excited for, this was the one that had everyone hyped. I think the general consensus is that this is their best album released after 1992, and I'm inclined to agree (though 'TESF' and 'True North' have legitimate claims, too). Hard 4.5.

Silence

Probably the softest 4.5 on the list. This absolutely wouldn't be here without the nostalgia, but Blindside was one of the bands that helped me get into heavier music. I remember having an office job during my freshman year of college and filing papers to this album on repeat. The album is a highlight of the era it was released in and irreplaceable in how it helped shape my music tastes, but it's not in me to listen to it all the way through nowadays.

Destrage is a band I had no idea existed until Spotify told me I should check them out one week a few years. I did, and was immediately hooked. This album is the perfect blend of catchy and heavy for me, the same sweet spot that got me addicted to...well, 'Addicted' (Devin Townsend Project). Definitely a hard 4.5, I still spin this album fairly regularly and love it just as much.
14Flying Lotus
Until the Quiet Comes

An underrated Flying Lotus album, probably because it doesn't have a standout track or two to focus on, but rather is consistent throughout the entire run time. As a whole album, I enjoy it more than 'Your Dead!'...but there's no "Never Catch Me" here. That being said, I love Flying Lotus, this album was the first one I got to be excited for, and it'll probably keep its rating for me.
