04.07.11 | you'll probably actually like the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack.
it's got a lot of soulful/folky/semi-hymntastic tunes.
especially Down To The River To Pray, listening to that song makes me quite pleased haha |

04.07.11 | Hymns are lame, just like religion. |
Masochist
04.07.11 | Mmmm..."Nearer, My God, To Thee" is awesome. As is "Old Rugged Cross"
And you'll mostly find lots of CCM redo's of Hymns, as opposed to old gospel hymns. You'll have to get the Kirk Franklin/Shirley Caesar versions of all of those ;-).
Or you could just listen to the "Prince of Egypt" soundtrack--that should take care of all of it. |

04.07.11 | Every heard Jeff Beck's version of Amazing Grace? Simply chilling. |

04.08.11 | I'm not really sure of any hymn collections but sam cooke does some amazing hymns on that portrait of a legend cd, also The Stanley Brothers / Ralph Stanley or worth checking out. The Louvin Brothers are another good bet, and The Carter Family aswell.
