10 Awesome Moments Vol.1 |
1 | | Jimi Hendrix Axis: Bold As Love
Spanish Castle Magic - 2:00-2:15
Right after the solo and into the chorus for the third time: Jimi is practically yelling at this point as if he's really trying to convince his darling to hang on f'real this time. |
2 | | Coroner Grin
Serpent Moves - 3:15-4:20
Guitar solo right after second chorus: Coroner recorded many fine solos but this one is my favorite. |
3 | | Buckethead Pepper's Ghost
Pepper's Ghost - 3:33-4:08
Nearing the last third of the song: B.Head's entire discography, and this song in particular, is full of awesome moments but this riffage here shreds extra hard. |
4 | | Alice In Chains Dirt
Rain When I Die - 1:48-2:18
First chorus: Layne sounds absolutely tortured here and I'm reveling in it. |
5 | | The Devin Townsend Band Accelerated Evolution
Deadhead - 2:53-3:46
Second verse into first chorus: Speaking of tortured, Devin picks up the intensity about halfway into the song and it sounds fucking painful. "HURT ME, I CAN TAKE IT" ....Goddamn. |
6 | | Beardfish The Void
Ludvig And Sverker - 4:14-5:01
Bridgey section into quiet chorus: Upon first listen, this song comes off as a bit cheesy but after repeated listens, so many awesome moments reveal themselves. It eventually became my favorite song from my favorite album of 2012. |
7 | | Agalloch Ashes Against The Grain
Falling Snow - 6:59-9:09
Last third of song: Fuuuuck, where so you start with this monster? From beginning to end, the whole song just crushes. It's hard to choose a favorite part but about 2/3 the way in, it seems as if it's about to end but then the drums build back up and we're treated to THE outro of all outros. The climax with the double kicks seals the deal. |
8 | | Cave In Antenna
Woodwork - 3:57-5:00
Build up to solo through last chorus: This song reminds me of college so maybe there's some nostalgia factored in here but that build up to the solo gets me every time. Definitely not Cave In's finest song or album, just a great moment on an underrated album. |
9 | | Steven Wilson Insurgentes
Harmony Korine - 3:00-3:28
Instrumental repeat of second chorus: As much as I like Mr. Wilson's first solo record, this one didn't really hit me until I saw it performed live. That second guitar layered over everything else just nails it. |
10 | | Bloodbath Unblessing The Purity
Mouth Of Empty Praise - 1:41-2:25
Breakdown: "INSANITY WILL REIGN SUPREME, UGHHHHH!" |
