A few good albums that I've been listening to lately. | 1 | | As Cities Burn Son, I Loved You at Your Darkest
Realized I never really gave this a fair listen back in the day, so I'm revisiting it before Hell or High Water comes out. Pretty good stuff, not as solid as they would get, but definitely a grower. | 2 | | Strata Strata Presents The End Of The World
I never thought these guys really got the attention they deserved, and this album is a great example of them taking hard rock, pop, and even occasionally progressive sensibilities and making something sweet. And Eric Victorino is one of the most distinctive vocalists in the business. | 3 | | Isis Panopticon
Probably my favorite Isis record, figured I'd give this one a few more spins to satisfy me until Wavering Radiant's release. "In Fiction" rox my sox foreals. | 4 | | System of a Down Mezmerize
This one's for the sake of nostalgia. It's nowhere near as complex or powerful as their self-titled or Toxicity, but it is just plain fun. I'd forgotten just how awesome "B.Y.O.B." is, and "Violent Pornography" and "Lost in Hollywood" still rank in my top System songs. | 5 | | Silverstein A Shipwreck in the Sand
I've gotta be honest, I was always a sucker for Silverstein. But even I lost confidence after Arrivals & Departures, and the prerelease teases for this were pretentious and left a bad taste in my mouth. But I was extremely surprised by what they came up with here; the lyrics are juvenile at best, but the story itself is pretty interesting, and the band sounds refreshed and energized. "Vices," "I Knew I Couldn't Trust You," and especially "The End" are pretty incredible. | 6 | | God Is An Astronaut A Moment of Stillness EP
Good relaxation music. I'm not too big into these guys, really, but this and All Is Violent, All Is Bright are both very capable post-rock albums. | |
