Upcoming Shows (April Edition)

Pretty self-explanatory, list of concerts I'm either definitely or most likely seeing in the Baltimore/D.C. area.
1Amanda Palmer
There Will Be No Intermission

Playing the National Theatre in D.C. on 4/5. Honestly not as into ol' Mandy Palm-Palm as my girlfriend--we're going partly for her birthday--but the handful of times I've seen her (at least three or four, at this point) have all been pretty gripping AND unique shows, so definitely looking forward to this one. May need to give the album a spin or two beforehand, though. No openers, at least that I've seen announced, which is unusual for her, so we shall see.
2Thou
Magus

Playing the Metro Gallery in Baltimore on 4/9. I'll confess I'm a bit iffy on this one, but through absolutely no fault of the band--normally, would be here in a heartbeat, but I already have two confirmed concerts on consecutive weeknights (see, well, right below), along with the fact that the only friend who'd be into coming with is also tagging along to those, so this will almost definitely end up being a gameday decision. I've also slept on this album, which is purely my fault (and to my great shame), and may help decide one way or the other.
3Baroness
Gold and Grey

Playing the Fillmore in Silver Spring on 4/10. Already locked this show in, which I'm beyond hyped for, especially in the wake of "Borderlines," which absolutely, as the kids say, slaps. I had actually gotten the tickets before they even dropped the single and announced the album, so that just takes it to another level. Also, speaking of, love the troll of not just calling this thing 'Orange.'
4Deafheaven
Ordinary Corrupt Human Love

Co-headlining with Baroness. An odd pair-up, in my opinion, but one I'm all for. I've sorta gotten into and back out of this record a few times back and forth now, but the concert review I saw on Metalsucks for an early show from this tour seemed to indicate their set was pretty wide-ranging within the discography. I've also never seen them live before, so excited about it regardless, ideal setlist or not.
5Zeal and Ardor
Live in London

Opening for Baroness and Deafheaven. This is just the icing on the cake. Have listened to (and loved) their latest album, and while I haven't scoped this one or their debut yet, will probably snag those at the show, so long as they're not absurdly priced.
6Dance Gavin Dance
Artificial Selection

Also playing the Fillmore Silver Spring, on 4/11. The very next night. Yeah, back-to-back shows, especially ones the better part of an hour away, are dicey for my achin', nearly 29-year-old feet, but I've loved DGD for years, and never seen them play, so had to go for it. I'm also firmly on-record as the Tilian era of the band being my favorite (not for nothing, it's when I truly got into them), which helped the case considerably.
7Don Broco
Technology

Opening for Dance Gavin Dance. Another recent obsession (well, lasting the better part of last year, so however 'recent' that counts as), and honestly as much a part of the decision to go as DGD. I made the mistake of showing up late (read: on-time, at least per what the site quoted for the respective doors and show times) the last time I saw these guys open (also at the Fillmore, but for Mike Shinoda, of all people; he was decent). Great energy, and every song (at least from this album) is singalong-ready.
8Hail the Sun
Mental Knife

Also opening for DGD. Have started to grow a little off of these guys (and honestly, this sub-genre as a whole) lately, but an opening set seems like the ideal dosage for a band that's still pretty-good-if-not-exactly-remarkable in my book.
9Covet
effloresce

Also also opening for DGD. Broco aside, without a doubt the opener I'm most excited for (and also possibly the biggest curveball on the lineup). Have only heard this album from them (her?), but it's a goodie fo sho.
10Periphery
Juggernaut: Omega

Also, once more, also opening for DGD, as well. Christ, this is gonna be a long show. I was never the hugest Periphery fan to start with, and this album is the last of theirs I actually took time to seek out. Happy to have my mind changed--but hey, even in the worst case, there's enough other quality acts on the roster that I won't be crestfallen if this one ends up as lackluster as I suspect it'll be.
11Strawberry Girls
Italian Ghosts (Re-Recorded)

Playing the Ottobar in Baltimore on 4/17. Another one on the iffier side, but again due more to timing than the actual band. Leaning more towards yes on this one, A) due to proximity (hell of a lot closer than Silver Spring) and B) a local band called Deaf Scene is opening, and they're absolutely killer live, some great high-energy, proggy post-rock/-hardcore, for whatever that jumble of labels might mean to you. No page on this site (yet), but check them yourself here: https://deafscene.bandcamp.com/
12Delta Sleep
Ghost City

Playing the Metro Gallery on 4/18. Got into these guys pretty recently, late last year, so between that and the show being a whopping $13, pretty stoked for this one. Metro's definitely not my favorite venue as far as acoustics are concerned, but you really can't beat it for intimacy. Plus, bar's pretty decent (and cheap!), which has historically also been known to help the whole intimacy aspect.
13Hikes
Hikes

Opening for Delta Sleep. Have only listened to these guys in passing, but they seem of a piece with their headliners, so excited to dig a little bit deeper. Also opening is a band called Bogues and Forges, whom I've yet to take the terrible trouble to Google (and aren't on this site, to wit), but based solely on the name, I'm expecting something pretty akin to Hikes.
14Camp Cope
How to Socialise and Make Friends

Playing the Black Cat in D.C. on 4/29. Another hard maybe here. Only just started getting into this group, and a Monday night show down in D.C. is far from ideal, but not ruling it out yet, especially with a month to marinate further in the music.
15Thin Lips
Riff Hard

Opening for Camp Cope. Honestly, don't really know this band, but intend to check them out as part of the decision-making process on this show. Also opening is another band I've never heard of, Oceanator, which, same story there. Interesting name, at least, so that's a start.
