Brain Stew: Have you heard Chicago's 25 of 6 to 4? Seriously, same damn bassline.
Dani California: Listen to the first verse in Dani California, then listen to the first verse of Tom Petty's Mary Jane's Last Dance. Same everything.
Redundant: Listen to the solo for that, then the solo for The Ramone's I Want You Around. Same solo.
Warning: Never Got the Chance by Other Garden was a huge British hit in 1997....but Green Day released Warning three years later and were actually sued over it.
Smells Like Teen Spirit: The origin of the main riff comes with a humorous story: Nirvana used to cover More Than A Feeling by Boston often. It's even been said that in the beggining, they would go from More Than A Feeling into Smells Like Teen Spirit live. Even though Kurt later cleared everything with Boston, admitted that that's where he got the riff, and they didn't care, Boston still should have been credited on later pressings of Nevermind. And for the people who could never figure out where exactly in More Than A Feeling the riff is, right before the chorus. |

09.22.06 | i never realised how much green day ripped off people. |

09.22.06 | Atreyu ripped of the Hive from In Flames. At least the intro. They called their song "right sid of the bed" i though.

09.22.06 | There's a million other songs they ripped off too. In total, at least fifteen. The thing is, what Green Day can do with very simple stuff is amazing, they just have trouble coming up with the simple stuff that they do amazing things with. Red Hot Chili Peppers, on the other hand, have no excuse! |

09.22.06 | think illedautumn has over-ranted bout SLTS - they did used to play Boston before SLTS to taunt the fans as bits of the main riff of SLTS and the bit before the chorus of MTAF - I've got the bootleg DVD to prove it. The idea for the Riff was from that yes, but its not that exact riff, if u listen its been altered and only one a small part of Boston's song so does it warrant a credit not really!
Mite as well of put another Green Day one up - which is part of Jesus of Suburbia is taken from Black Sabbath's Children of the Grave - but its only a small part again! |

09.22.06 | this list is a rip off. |

09.22.06 | Then again, no one shuts the hell up about Black Sabbath N.I.B. and it's more than a little different than Cream. I just thought the story that Nirvana covered Boston (yeah, they played it tuned down) was funny enough to dedicate more to than Green Day. |
John Paul Harrison
09.22.06 | The Nirvana and Boston songs sound completely different. But whatever. |
Waterloo_Sunset
09.22.06 | fair point, it was a good story. i jus thought dani california was more of a rip off myself - SLTS less so, but then... music is based on copyin riffs and adapting them so really its all a rip off!
Also Creams Sunshine of Your Love is the best and most simplistic bassline ever written, Jack Bruce- legend!! |
Onewaytrip2hell
09.22.06 | Yeah, what StinkyPoptart said. This list is a fu.cking ripoff. Nonetheless, it was pretty decent I guess. But still, I'll. make. that. series. of lists. |

09.22.06 | I can't believe no one has said that the solo near the end of "Dani California" sounds similar to the solo at the beginning of "Purple Haze" from Jimi Hendrix. |
Onewaytrip2hell
09.22.06 | No. I laughed a little. But then I was TOO PISSED OFF AT A RIPOFF OF MY RIPOFF LIST! |
stinkypoptart
09.22.06 | i think john frusciante made it like that on purpose because he was like paying tribute to hendrix or something. |

09.22.06 | barojsn: The solo to Dani California isn't a "rip-off", it's an "homage". That's what Frusciante said at least, and I believe everything he tells me.

09.22.06 | Read the title: this list is a tribute to OneWayTicket2Hell. That's why I said "More" and "er". Not my idea. Some one else's. He big, me small. Get the whole irony of the situation? Me ripping off a list about ripping off songs? You know? That was kind of implied, just to clarify. |
Onewaytrip2hell
09.22.06 | Seriously? Cool. Ah, well it's fine with me I guess. And yes, you did implie it. |
Trundle
09.22.06 | Good to see number 2 on here, my friend showed me that it was a rip off a couple of days ago. |
stinkypoptart
09.22.06 | Jet are you gonna be my girl was ripped off from lust for life by the stooges. |
iarescientists
09.23.06 | I'm not saying it's right. One solo in one song, in the 100 or so songs Frusciante has released with RHCP is okay, espically when he gives credit, but obviously a full album of "homages"isn't and is technically a cover album. |

09.23.06 | These lists are extremely near sided. Sorry for pointing out that which is obvious. |

09.23.06 | What about Metallica ripping off Tapping Into The Emotional Void by Excel with Enter Sandman? |
Waterloo_Sunset
09.23.06 | iarescientists - it wasnt one solo tho was it he ripped off, the whole song was a Tom Petty rip off! |
iarescientists
09.23.06 | ^ I know, I was just defending John Frusciante for that comment, plus I'm in denial that one of the most original bands of all-time could copy a song, but I can always say I never cared for Dani California anyways. |
