Five Favourite Albums
1Opeth
Still Life

I'm an Opeth fanboy and if this was my most played albums, it would be full of Opeth's, but I had to go with Still Life because of it's epicness, beauty, atmosphere and lush guitarwork etc etc (plus the nice little concept). Every song on Still Life is a gem, the cover art is great, so this album is pure awesomeness gemlike. Some of Mike and Peter's guitar solos are pure aurgasmic material, and Lopez's drumming is wicked, Mendez even uses a fretless bass on Face of Melinda. Definately the apex of all my albums.
2Tool
Lateralus

Pretty much the album that got me into heavier stuff and prog. Danny Carey is a great drummer, his tasteful and mechanical beats on this album help creates alot of atmosphere and such. Parabola was the first Tool song I heard and confused me at first because I only listened to like Muse and Radiohead back then, but as I grew into Tool, my musical tastes became clearer.
3The Mars Volta
Frances the Mute

This album is a nice listen as the ambient sections are very relaxing. Jon Theodore's drumming is sublime, Omar's spastic dissonant guitar lines are interesting and crazy and Cedric vocals are powerful and emotive. John Frusciante's solos on L'Via L'Viaquez are quite wicked.
4Pelican
The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon the

Pelican's latest album is an instrumental delight with powerful metallish riffage and sweet swirling acoustic content.March into the Sea is a track that showcases how ehavy this band can get. Pelican are so great they don't need a vocalist, if only Dream theater didn't have one :)
5The Flaming Lips
The Soft Bulletin

The Soft Bulletin is a very versatile and enjoyable album. The album has a weird duality of elements of happiness and sadness but remains light and never too harsh. The Spiderbite Song is awesome.
