Top 10 Favourite Bands

My favourite 10 bands ever
1 Tool
Album

Danny Carey is such an influentual drummer to me as he single handedly wanted to make me play the drums. Overall, I love the atmosphere of the band and the playing can be simple sometimes, but it is so beautiful and effective
2 Opeth
Album

The beautifully intricate guitar lines of Mikael Awkerfeldt together with his beautiful clean voice. This is just one half of the monster of a band which is Opeth and together with their other half: the growling, demonic death metal sections, they make some of the best metal music that I have ever heard.
3 Iron Maiden
Album

I've been into this band longer than any. Maiden basically got me into metal and with it, it introduced progressive elements which I now adore. Bruce Dickinson is one of the best vocalists alive and along with the awsome harmonized guitars and galloping rhythm section, Iron Maiden are one of the greatest bands in metal today.
4 Pain Of Salvation
Album

Daniel Gildenlow is one of the most talented and most emotional lead singers I have ever heard. Together with intricate vocal harmonies, a high level of musiciabship and intriguing concepts, Pain Of Salvation are one of my favourite bands.
5 AFI
Album

A very different choice to the other bands on the list. AFI basically got me into music. There's something that I really like about the combination of the high pitched screams of Davey Havok; the imaginitive guiar work of Jade Puget; the thumping original bass lines of Hunter Burgan; and finally the solid steady beat of Adam Carson. Together, they make an interesting blend of hardcore and more gothic dark elements
6 The Mars Volta
Album

The Mars Volta have a very special place in my heart. They are the only band that I really like who I've pretty much liked since their formation. The band creates a very oringial progressive feel with a latin nuance. They also incorporate an interesting use of ambient electronics, although sadly, this is their weakest point as they use this in a horrible amount of excess of their latest offering, Frances The Mute
7 Porcupine Tree
Album

Steve Wilson is a fantastic songwriter. Personally I prefer later albums such as Deadwing and In Absentia to their earlier more pshychadelic outings but they know how to make great catchy poppy songs as well as brooding 12+ minute epics and thus create the music of one of my favourite bands.
8 Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Album

My favourite post rock band. The band manage to build up lengthy songs in the same vein that classical composers manage to do and then release with a fantastic climatic boom. Together, these nine musicians know how to work together with their instruments and create some very good music.
9 Pink Floyd
Album

Despite Pink Floyd being so amazingly huge, the Floyd were a fairly recent discovery for me. I simply adore the laid back but yet highly emotional aspect to the music. Togther, the band creates a somewhat soothing tension that builds up along with some very good vocal deliveries and fantastic guitar wailing of David Gilmour. I haven't really heard any of the Syd Barret albums so I'm in no position to comment on them.h
10 Dredg
Album

Another fairly recent revelation for me. The band just does something extraordinary as they deliver quite a poppy sound with very cathy choruses and nothing too heavy or extreme, but the delivery is so fantastic. The songs are so crafted so cleverly and create an atmosphere like no other. Overall, the instrumentation isn't astonishing, but it isn't about that. The music is about the feel and the atmosphere and they succeed on that on a very high level.
