1Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Trout Mask Replica

The ultimate grower. It might be his best and certainly his most famous, but I'd start with Safe as Milk and then move to Decals before tackling this beast tbh.

6Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Ice Cream for Crow
7Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Bat Chain Puller

Slightly edges out the one originally released in the '70's. For one, the production is better on this record.

Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller)
9Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Strictly Personal

The Captain himself doesn't like it much, and for good reason...... but I love it!!!
10Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
The Spotlight Kid
11Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Bluejeans and Moonbeams

better than it's reputation.
12Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Mirror Man

I know the Captain hates Strictly Personal, because of the phasing and also he didn't have control of his own project at that point. But trying to make up for it by releasing an album of unfinished, extended blues jams hardly makes up for it.
13Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band
Unconditionally Guaranteed

I didn't mind it after a few listens, but some of these songs kind of drag and lack potency.
