pjquinones747 01.26.23	@nol seymour flux is such a bitch. if i remember right you have to make sure you get auron's HP super high so he survives the fuck-you swoopy blade manuever and spam esuna whenever seymour zombies everyone. nowadays when i play FFX im good at manipulating the sphere grid to get yuna and lulu's black magic super powerful and then most of the game is a cinch after that, so my strat assumes you've done a lot of the same stuff i guess. sounds cheap but as long as you use a game guide up to that point you should be able to handle him.

ConcubinaryCode 01.26.23	@nol yeah I've beaten it a few times. I actually got the platinum on ps4. I'm using the expert sphere grid this time because it let's you change characters "roles" way koeasier. You can get tidus in aurons grid, kimahri in rikkus at the start for example. One you get to Seymour Flux it's when the game gets serious about bosses and you gotta work out strategies a bit on the fly. Zanarkand keeper is the boss I'm pretty sure you're referring too and iirc he uses a ton of buffs and debuffs so shit like dispel is what you need to keep him from overwhelming you. Fwiw people have playthroughs without using the sphere grid at all so there's a ton of ways to cheese the game (mostly revolving around using rikkus mix) and I def wouldn't play again without a cutscene skip but that's just on pc for some reason. I'm at the thunder plains now so about halfway through the game atm.

The 1060 was still doing decent for what I needed but it was probably time to move on.

I just thought they were an enemy you couldn't ever avoid / ally with (which makes literally no sense as they're listed as a 'faction' you can have rep with). I even bought the collector's ed guide. Yeah, I'm clearly stupid.

It's worked well enough for years that I didn't find it nessisary to start anew but dead space is the first game that's tempted me lol. I did recently get a 4k tv aswell so maybe the stars are aligning. If ds 'gets cracked' or has a demo maybe I'll try it but the 'minimum req' seem past all my specs

Even at 720p, almost every game today when paired even with a 980 isn't CPU limited. So saying "a 30 series" further reinforces that point. CPU bottlenecks on the low-mid range are a thing of 10 years ago and haven't been an issue for years. EVEN a 3rd Gen i5 is capable of 60fps in most games today. And that cane be shown time and time again online

I've never been worried about resolutions so it's been fine for everything I've thrown at it so far, buuut 60bucks is a bit of a gamble lol. I've got an even older i7-860 and it also runs most moderner stuff fine(aslong as it's got all the nessisary CPU instructions). My whole rational was it's not worth getting a budget CPU/modern i3 because it'd only be like a marginal increase over my current rig. If I did get a new CPU it's prolly be like a 300bux i7/Ryzen. I wiiish I had gotten a 1060 ti instead but I bought the 1050ti when it was 110bux, I was shocked to see it upcharged to 300s a year or two ago, it's an underwhelming card tbh but works well enough. If it's on ea play/gamepass might try launching it as is, my hdds are probably a bigger bottleneck than my cpu tho lol

FreakMachine 01.28.23	And nah the 1050ti as a low end 1080p card was excellent and is still viable in most games today. Nvidia haven't done a true 1080p card since, even the 3050 is capable of 1440p gaming using DLSS

BAT 01.28.23	I've heard the 1650 was just a rebrand of the 1050 so I feel ya, I initially bought it as an upgrade from a 650ti and aside from more vram/textures I was expecting it to handle extra effects better buuuut stuff like siege wouldn't have much of an advantage fps wise regardless of the vram, had friends that went with the Rx 580 instead with worse CPUs getting better framerates here and there, but I am glad I got the card when I did cause it's lasted me probably around 5 years now with no issue, might 4k CS go but haven't tried it. I did just get doom eternal thru humble and I assume that will be easy to run

Not sure how that is speaking without knowledge, unless I missed something earlier in the conversation. I'm speaking from experience, that specific CPU and older models do have problems with the loading sequences of No Man's Sky, which are CPU rendered, not GPU. There are other games out there that are CPU-intensive during gameplay but they're likely limited to script heavy indie games made in old ass RPG Maker engines. My second comment was to imply exactly your point - that it really doesn't matter, you can use any GPU really to do the heavy lifting in nearly all modern games.

BAT 01.28.23	@para think they were mainly concurring with you but i'll admit to being unknowledgeable about dead spaces scalability mainly cause of how new it is. i've seen many cases where the posted minimum requirements are much higher than what i have on paper, but my 'unsupported' cpu or gpu runs them perfectly. now that youtubes got some people testing on my gear i'm a little more interested buut still a bit apprehensive about buying it so soon if it'll end up being janky, i don't even have ssd's and that's listed as a minimal lol. haven't built a computer in forever so don't really know what cards/cpus are the best bang for the buck anymore and my steams https://steamcommunity.com/id/prollytab/ , added someone while back to play insurgency sandstorm but was too tied up to really get the chance, i'm still working my way back into playing stuff

DungeonBoy 01.30.23	RE Village is one of the best RE games ever made, VII was incredible, but I think somehow they made VIII even better. Elden Ring was a masterpiece, but yeah by end game it gets to be a tad of a slog. I honestly think they could have made the game shorter and more succinct, but it was so fun just to run around and kill stuff and the atmosphere was so incredible, the length (end game) didn't ruin it for me. I do think it's a valid criticism. I think the problem with the length for me was that it turned me off from repeat plays, and I didn't really get that feeling from any previous SoulsBornes.

DungeonBoy 01.31.23	Darkest Dungeon brother in the house. ffs, I just started a couple weeks ago and I'm absolutely loving it. I had avoided playing it for so long because I heard it was "too hard". I definitely struggled to figure out wtf I was doing the first day and kept using wrong classes in wrong positions and really not understanding the mechanics. Even then it was somehow frustrating but also really fun. I've started to experiment more, and I think i'm understanding a little better wtf i'm supposed to be doing. Either way, it's an absolute gem.
ffs 01.31.23	its quality, big fan of the art, the narrator and the general vibe. i think playing for hours and hours and making what feels like 0 net progress is the quintessential darkest dungeon noob experience, i did exactly the same. its the kind of game where learning from your fuckups is still fun, i wouldnt call it a hard game exactly but there are a crazy amount of variables to consider and you need to seriously grind to have guys that will stand a chance in later dungeons. it is extremely satisfying when you find good synergies and just crush an enemy or boss who previously wrecked your shit though. other than familiarising yourself with the classes and enemies i think the biggest hurdle is not getting too attached to your guys, especially for levels like 1-3 you should just dismiss anyone who has really shit quirks/excessive stress because they'll hold you back. save all your gold to upgrade the wagon, guild and blacksmith rather than waste it destressing deadweights. always have a blast playing but i tend to only play in binges, usually i'll lose a legendary hero to some brutal rng or dumb misplay and it puts me off playing for a month or two

But yeah it's not that it's hard per se, it's that if you make a bad decision you feel the weight of that bad decision and there's no returning from a serious F up. I absolutely love the atmosphere though, the narrator, the music, the art-style, just the absolute oppressive feeling at times. It really is a masterpiece, I've never played anything like it.

Also started up a career on UFC 4 recently. DungeonBoy 02.09.23	Doom 3 was Doom's attempt at FPS survival horror. It feels drastically different than any other game in the franchise. It's not nearly as fun as the old or new games where you have that rewarding blowing crap up vibe throughout, but it has a certain charm to it worth at least checking out. It's not the best Doom game, but for what they tried to do it's worth checking out if you can get it on a heavy discount.

RPG that takes place on Mars where water has become an extremely sought after item and it somehow leads to you fighting off wild looking creatures/aliens! I remember seeing this back in the day but never trying it. Love getting these older backwards compatible games though and taking little journeys back in time

I got two very interesting relics early on, which kind of synergized very well, Prayer Wheel that gives an additional card reward every combat, which helped me build a nice deck very quick and Snecko Eye, that increased the number of cards I drew on the beginning of a combat, but randomized the cost of them, considering I had a bunch of 2~3 energy cards, sometimes I was able to get 3 energy power cards, or other 2 energy cards for free. I also had a relic that reduced the cost of a random card to 0 every time I used a power card, which helped a lot too.

The only thing that felt like it didn’t belong in the milky way is Habitat 7. The rest of the planets could’ve been in the original trilogy and nobody would know the difference. Going to a completely new galaxy should’ve let them go wild with it, but instead we get a generic desert planet, a generic snow planet, a generic plant planet etc etc. and only one new race? Come on man. I’m ranting, I just love the original trilogy so much and Andromeda was just such a disappointment. Worth playing, especially for $10, but man, even like 6 years on it still pisses me off.

Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't as bad as people were trying to say, but it wasn't anywhere near the Trilogy. That is my favorite game franchise, right there. I still play the whole thing once a year (with mods now to skip the tedious mini games). I just finished Far Cry 3 and it wasn't up to the hype. I also finished the Final Fantasy VII remake, and it was actually pretty good (never played the original)

I love that game.

PotsyTater 02.26.23	I’ve only played the first Nioh so I can only make an approximated claim but I will say that as much as I did enjoy it as a souls inspired game it doesn’t tick all the boxes. A big part of what makes souls games great is how the world is built and connected and in Nioh you are just playing in isolated maps. Elden Ring is probably a good starting point but the problem is that if it turns you into a fromsoft simp then it will probably ruin gaming for you Very little hits the same after you get into dark souls lol. My attention span for new games has been severely crippled.
PotsyTater 02.26.23	@wildcard you have a lot more freedom over your build in Elden ring than dark souls, you can make a build that is like a bloodborne character and even have the quick step dodge mechanic. But also I think dark souls 3 combat was quickened a lot compared to 1 and 2 and Elden ring is probably even quicker than that.

I also didn't like having to go back to previous levels to grind up before doing the next stage. At least Elden Ring is open. I just finished Far Cry 3 and now I'm starting 4 (got a PS5 and PS+ for Christmas). I also want to try High On Life for Xbox.

The weapon play is extremely satisfying, especially stealth options like the bow and arrow and sniper, hunting animals is a blast, and it gets really over the top and psychedelic at times. I was really surprised at how much fun I had.

Demon of the Fall 03.22.23	'Demon of the Fall. I am not a Tales of savant heh, but Tales of Berseria rules!' it certainly does. I've only played that one, Zestiria and parts of Vesperia and Berseria is the one that makes me hope they have another great game in them. I've put a lot of hours into it, did NG+ and explored everything I could. The combat system can be somewhat repetitive but honestly that suited me and you can always mix it up by using a different player-controlled character.
Demon of the Fall 03.22.23	I've attempted playing Oblivion twice. The first time was pre-Skyrim (just) as I wanted to try it before the new ES dropped and it felt dated then. Playing it post-Skyrim was actually better (weirdly), even though it had dated further due to playing the next iteration in the series first. By then I'd also accepted that it was going to look / play like shit and I was in it for the lore and exploration. Already having an investment in the series helped massively. I didn't ever finish it mind.

Parallels 03.22.23	Untitled Goose Game i untied a kids shoelaces and he tripped, then i took his toy plane and put it in the shop and made the kid have to buy it back from the store. then i stole the gardener's tools and made that guy have to buy his shit back as well. then i stole from the store and dropped it in the back of a garage, and when the shop owner went to retrieve it, I closed the door on them and trapped them inside. 10/10

Nuka World has some fun locations and ambiance but the core mechanic is very bleh. I tend to like any and all, though, because I get so much enjoyment from the locational lore, exploration, atmosphere, etc. @sin The internet fucking lloovveess Dead Money and I think that it is partially interested but entirely too tedious for the intrigue to matter much... Absolutely adore Big MT and the other two are quite fun as well. @wildcard yeah the gameplay was dated when it originally came out LOL still love those games, though.
Demon of the Fall 03.22.23	yeah, I've shamelessly dumped 400 hours into Fallout 4, yet never touched Far Harbour before. Pleased that I saved it for now in a way though. I'd still say F4 doesn't compare to F3 or FNV, but in reality 3 is actually quite barren from a content perspective. That game is 100% a nostalgia-fuelled engrossing atmospheric setting / world with shoddy gameplay, lol. Technically F4 is much better in that regard and has an absolute ton of (genuine) content, yet loses a lot of points for being more of a shooter than an RPG (no stat points?!) What I'd give for a proper up-down remake of FNV, that game runs like crap but the factions / decision-making / consequences aspect of that one elevates it over the others in many ways.

PunkerBlast 03.29.23	Battlechasers some indie rpg I decided to try which was based off a early 2000 comic I never heard of. Oblivion is a lot of fun. It can feel very samey looking but on the PC with some mods you can spruce the locales up and the actual guilds are great. I always play these games first on console for some reason and that was my first experience of Oblivion. Why does Skyrim have to have some nicer more varied locations but then almost all the guilds except for the Dark Brotherhood (I heard that was cool) seem like ass and so short.

Why did they think yeah our face models are so good we want you to see just that and a little neck. Oblivion is fun how you can just do these little things to increase your stats to no end without any effort, like sneaking. I forget it might cap your leveling but it won't cap your skill gain. Oh yeah because as you level the shit around you level so that's why you could find dirty bandits wearing expensive armor. Morrowind was the best haha Also I have played a little Skyrim Dark Brotherhood I just never got far in it.

Wildcardbitchesss 03.29.23	Dead Space 3 is fine, it got a ton of hate but it’s not a bad game at all. Playing it co op was a ton of fun back in the day. Having said that, the original has better scares and the 2nd has better action. Again, still a good time but the first two are some of the greatest games ever made. And the remake is fucking incredible. There was one part I got stuck on because the objectives list was kind of shit. I was wandering around like a dipshit because my objective marker was turning me in circles. Only time I caved and looked up how to get through it. Playing Ghost of Tsushima now on PS5. Only a couple of hours in but it’s some good shit. Kinda feels like Sekiro lite even on hard but I don’t wanna play something that’s going to kick my ass all of the time. Next up is gonna be the Miles Morales Spiderman. Then I’ll probably spend a month playing Horizon Forbidden West, I’m trying to time it so I can start that game as the DLC comes out. Mostly because the DLC in Zero Dawn was definitely the best part of the game.

Lost Odyssey has awesome turn based combat, but unfortunately the characters and writing are mediocre imo. @wildcard i loved the first two, but I can see why DS3 is the black sheep, it definitely feels like a downgrade. Not far enough to make a real judgement though.

You can do this on a straight run blind on normal though one of those fights to get an S is trickier and a jerk but there is literally one fight that is tough. Steins;Gate 0 is easy too. I played these on PC and I was like wtf I need this. So there was a call you can just turn down, so since I save a lot it took me fiver for that. It was a very particular call. But I don't take care about total completion usually.

Absolutely adore Big MT and the other two are quite fun as well." i've seen very divisive discussions about it, but i still think it's good fun. the collar mechanicas get very annoying past a certain point though and basically forces you to quicksave every two minutes. the ghosts aren't particularly fun to fight either, especially the spear ones who headshot you and wipe a third of your hp far too regularly for a dlc which strips all your items and has a mass scarcity of healing pickups. but i do like the companions a lot. old world blues would be my favourite but the fucking roboscorpions are annoying as shit and are way too strong. lonesome road is probs my fave, not only does it tie together all the little lore from the other dlcs and the main game, but it's the closest fallout has ever got to an action horror and it suits that aesthetic so well.

MillionDead 04.10.23	@zak, I was honestly one of those people that was wildly disappointed in Cyberpunk, and I sunk 80 hrs into it. Was seeing the mixed reviews but I had been waiting since it was announced, so I had to see it through. Too many missing features and empty promises around it, in addition to the myriad glitches, shallow open world, etc. Mike Pondsmith's lore is incredible, and the writing is fantastic at points but it was also inconsistent with spotty pacing. I feel like the main narrative was too much of the Johnny Silverhand show sometimes and wished for a greater emphasis on V's journey and character development. Actually wouldn't have minded less Keanu, you could tell they changed a lot of things specifically for his inclusion. The first third definitely could have benefited from way more Jackie. Definitely one the best looking games to come out though from a graphics and art design perspective. Last thing I really got into was Yakuza 6: Song of Life. I love the Yakuza franchise so damn much. Even when it's antiquated or flawed, it just bleeds charm. Yakuza 0 made me fucking cry. I can't even remember when another videogame has done that.

I play this game once every 6 months extensively just so I can keep my senses sharp. The Last of Us Part 1 - 5/10 - Boring af. A24-core. Indie nonsense. Absolutely cringe till the very end. Even the gameplay is flat. Automobilista 2 - 9/10 - I installed this simulator to practice my driving. It's mindblowingly great. I'm planning to replay the two modern Doom games. My current opinion is that Doom 2016 is vastly superior to Doom Eternal. Also started playing Thief II: The Metal Age but it seems like it's a very nerdy game and I do not really like it yet.

MillionDead 04.27.23	@Pots: The story is damn near sadistic in how utterly dismal it is, but it fits the tone they've always went for. Like, it's a great story and you feel invested in what happens, but it's also sad as shit basically the entire time. There were a few moments where Amecia felt a tad self righteous as a protag given her actions but I feel like the game is aware of that. Gameplay wise, I feel as though it mostly improves on what came before. The game wants to act like sneaking around guards is equally viable, but I feel like the actual structure really incentivizes you to just kill mfs so you can move/loot freely. The crossbow and knives are a cool addition. The crossbow feels really powerful, especially toward the end. Knives are kind of meh because they're 1 use for kills and also for opening specific locked workbenches. Seeing as the benches felt more important and the knives are really rare anyway, I probably killed less than 5 enemies with knives the whole playthrough. Can't remember exactly how much the checkpoints sucked in Innocence but they're kinda spotty in the sequel also. Couple of moments where I had a stupid death and got sent back kind of far and it annoyed me. Nothing awful though. Probably a 7/10 for me, similar to the first game.

PotsyTater 05.07.23	So I’m playing Last of Us 2 cuz I want to finish it before season 2 of the show and I know new Zelda and Elden Ring dlc means I won’t be playing any other games for like a year and honestly It’s much worse than the first one. Joel dying is fine, no problem with that being the main catalyst for the events of the game, but holy fuck every single new character is insufferable and designed so fugly. Jesse is a fucking piece of cardboard. I didn’t think they could make Dina any less interesting and then they made her pregnant. And then they were like “haven’t had enough pregnant? Here is the mopiest goblin turd of a character you’ve ever seen and literally all she will ever talk about is being pregnant and you have to travel with her�. Abbeys entire personality is that she likes coins and doesn’t like heights but I’m supposed to Stan because they had the ~bravery~ to have a butch female main character who can bare knuckle brawl zombies (which I do, in fact, stan but i resent the pandering). So much finger wagging for my actions as Ellie but I don’t actually give a fuck about a single person I’ve killed so far. And making one of them preggers isn’t going to tug my heart strings, sorry. Kid was gonna have a TERRIBLE life. Now I have to play as Abby and I looked up online that there’s about 10 hours of that before I can go back to Ellie and presumably bash Abby’s skull in finally and then be made to feel guilty about it (I won’t) Which would be fine if the game play loop wasn’t so terrible outdated. But I’m just not having fun running around putting shit in my pockets, running into locked gates and having to crawl around a building to get to the next locked get while endlessly being funneled through tedium towards the next cutscene. It’s just not fun anymore. Kind of a shit game I might stop and just watch the rest of the cutscenes on YouTube.

But if you hate the gameplay loop idk what to tell you. It’s literally just the first game but better in every single way. Probably the best stealth action in game in the last few years honestly.

I’m eager to see how this all wraps up and what the game wants to say hence why I’d still watch the rest of the cut scenes even if I stopped playing. But the gravity of the story telling so far is undermined by the fact that all of the characters suck except Ellie, Abby, and Tommy. And I don’t even know why I like Abby yet, I really don’t have a reason to.

Lots of really superficial things added to try and make each character obligatorily sympathetic, rather than earned. But despite Lev being one of the few characters I like in the game the entire story section about him and his sister is very obviously there to 1) ingratiate Abby with the player, and 2) humanize some of the cult folks But the set pieces, and Abby’s story in general once lev comes in, have changed my tune a bit about the game being to similar to the first one. Love the verticality of the sky bridge section, that felt fresh and fun. And new weapons seem to actually be picking up and such now.

PotsyTater 05.08.23	The dialogue and story in both tlou games and rdr2 definitely are definitely a cut above the rest in a more “good television� way than standard “video game� way. Which is very cool for what it is, and I admire the immersion compared to something like Witcher 3 or Skyrim for example where I could not smash my way through the dialogue fast enough, but it’s also not my favourite “style� of story telling for a video game. I really like the minimalism of Fromsoft games and Zelda games where the story is simple but cryptic and the immersion is rooted in atmosphere, aesthetic and mood/tone.
Colton 05.08.23	yeah it's hard to say how they'll approach their first game that's built for the 5 from the ground up. I would like something like Ragnarok or the new Star Wars where it's semi open world but still ultimately linear, with less of a focus on traditional game stuff like map markers and quest menus and what not, but still encouraging exploration

I’m fifteen hours in and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. The side missions are way more interesting, the characters are way less annoying. And god damn the game is beautiful. I played in 4K for a little while, but the 30 FPS was just too distracting.

And I might finally get around to Witcher 3 after this now that it’s got that next gen upgrade. I’ve had the base game and the DLC for years now but never really have given it a shot. I have so many games in my backlog lol. I wanna get around to the Alan Wake remaster and Control before Alan Wake 2 comes out. I still have to play the DLC for Ghost of Tsushima, and just picked up the Guardians of the Galaxy game on sale. And both Neir Replicant and Automata. Plus me and my friends have been slowly playing The Quarry online, it’s just hard for us all to find time where we’re all off or all can stay up late. Really glad I bought the PS5. Gaming on PC got kinda old and my computer can’t run games like it used to.

Her and Ganyu were unstoppable for the longest time — heard about the Kazuha rerun! everyone is still crying about no Eula lol. Dude artifacts was also partially the reason — I wanted to finish my Venti, and I saved up weeks of fragile resin and after the dust settled I had ONE pretty good piece lmao. HSR has a much more forgiving and not as needed artifact system bc the talents are really what matters on the unit for the majority of the game

Not very useful at all for bloom/hyperbloom teams tho unfortunately, XQ and Yelan work much better for the former and Barbara and kok are apparently best for nilou bloom but I don’t have kok and I refuse to use Barbara in any capacity And yeah lmao the two current saltiest topics seem to be no Eula rerun (I don’t like her so w/e) and of course how butthurt everyone is about Dehya sucking (I was excited for her but these folks act like hoyo killed their dog and it’s hilarious/pathetic)

That being said Candace does suck unfortunately even in overworld gameplay. And Dehya is the most recent brown character and she also got done hella dirty.

Wildcardbitchesss 05.31.23	finally wrapped up Forbidden West yesterday. sucks Lance Reddick died. Sylens is easily the most interesting character in the series and it felt like he got sidelined for a lot of the game. Other than that I loved it. I’m not usually one to max out stats but I loved the gameplay loop so much more than in Zero Dawn. Gonna take a break from it before I tackle the DLC. Does anyone know of any more games like Norco or Citizen Sleeper?
