TalonsOfFire 07.02.22	Don’t know how I’d rank cause a few of these I haven’t seen since I was little. Princess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away are best. Castle in the Sky, Nausicca, Howls Moving Castle, and The Wind Rises are my next favs in no order. Kiki’s Delivery Service and Ponyo are pretty good and cute, best for children.

Kompys2000 07.02.22	Props for putting the wind rises that high, really thoughtful, beautiful film despite being more low-key and serious. That said Kaguya is like three times longer than it needed to be and the narration is almost Blade Runner levels of unnecessary, honestly wouldn't make my top 15 and I haven't even seen every Ghibli yet

Kompys2000 07.03.22	Recently watched Laputa for the first time and was a little puzzled by all the high praise I'd seen, not bad by any stretch ofc but didn't have toooooo much setting it apart from the average PG adventure flick besides the animation. Almost comes off like Miyazaki was trying to play it safe while Ghibli were still making a name for themselves

Kompys2000 07.03.22	Pom Poko is a weird one but probably my fav Takahata. The scene where they're watching TV and the one worker says the magic stuff is freaking him out but he can't afford to move away really struck me- such a ballsy move to portray deforestation as a complex issue with no easy answer, while also unambiguously standing against it.
