Shemson 06.06.22	I strongly disagree that there was lots of excellent Nu Metal however I’d also strongly disagree that Slipknot were Nu Metal, self titled and Iowa were extreme metal. Also I don’t think you’ll find anyone disagree that Sunbather isn’t black metal. Lorna Shore could come good, depends what their first full length with the new vocalist is like, dudes a beast. Megadeth have more good albums than Metallica agreed but also their highs are higher, RIP is GOAT thrash
Vercetti 06.06.22	I agree with most of these statements. Only 2 corrections: Hardwired is not worse than St Anger (and I'm not a "St Anger is the worst album ever!"-guy). Paranoid wouldn't be better withouth Planet Caravan. It would actually be slightly worse.
JKing92 06.06.22	Nu metal was pretty damn brilliant at its best. Almost completely disconnected from the "accepted" visions of what heavy metal was supposed to be, instead more in tune to the sounds of hip-hop, alternative, and grunge. Miles more entertaining, listenable, and downright enjoyable than any of the "classic" metal revival bands that came up in the wake of nu metal's commercial downfall (Lamb of God, Gojira, et al), stuck in the dustbin of musical creativity as they are. 😀

TheSpirit 06.06.22	i am not surprised at the obligatory jeremiah sunbather diss i don't think the nu metal hill is a great one to die on b/c that's kind of become a common accepted fact the last couple of years i don't think glam metal's influence is as prevalent as it was a decade ago, but for awhile a lot of the heavy scene openly admitted to enjoy and being inspired by glam
AlexKzillion 06.06.22	my metal hill, in hilarious contrast to this list: megadeth is straight up garbage besides like two albums, and they wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as they are if not for the mythos of dave getting kicked from his former band. By far the worst band in the big 4 but its an easy story to get behind

InfernalDeity 06.06.22	I found hardwired to be rather enjoyable. I dont expect Metallica to produce a 'Ride the Lightning' ever again. They have been making rock albums ever since Load and Hardwired is a pretty decent rock album.

JeremiahBullfrog 06.06.22	More of a cold atmosphere, a more raw production (though this doesn't mean a BM album can't be well produced), for the guitars to have more in common with Black Metal than tremolo picking

Thing is I'm pretty sure Deafheaven have never said "we are a Black Metal Band" my beef isn't with the band, it's more of how they are labelled something that they barely even sound like.

I think blaming metal gatekeepers, however snobbish and toxic they tend to be, for a perceived lack of rock stars is a big stretch. There are absolutely musicians in the 21st century with the sort of cultural clout enjoyed by, say, Queen back in the 20th. rock stars today just take different forms: Kanye, Drake, and Travis Scott, just to name a few, are each singular figures with widespread appeal, cultivated personae, and tastemaking ability (at least during their primes)
bludngorevidal 06.06.22	To the point that today's "rock stars" don't make guitar music, well, again, I think blaming the gatekeepers misses the point. do you really think an "outsider" discovering the likes of Black Veil Brides is going to be turned off by the sweaty screeds of a metal archives neckbeard? I strongly suspect that a casual listener new to metal music is going to form their opinions of a band on their experience with the music, not by scouring the web for opinions/reviews

Brand New are whatever for me, but if "SputLove" is enough to put you off, I'm truly grateful that I was a huge fan of Converge and GY!BE (and Deftones for that matter) since before this place existed. Disliking them through the hypetrain would've been detrimental to my life. Glad it was never the case.
