DarkHorizontal 08.03.20	1 > 2 > Prometheus are the big ones for me. I absolutely HATE covenant with a fierce passion and its far and away the worst. The rest are just fine and nothing to write home about.

fogza 08.03.20	Your top 3 makes sense, I think Alien and Alien 2 are interchangeable and it just depends on what you prefer. Alien 3 is definitely at the right position, and while flawed, it's still a good movie. Prometheus sucked but I would put that at 4. Everything else was just a bad idea / equally bad.

No, the monster is not some Lovecraftian enigma from outer space, it is the work of a sad robot carrying a grudge towards humans. Yay ALL mystery gone. Fuck off, who thought that was a good idea? And that's just one terrible thing about that terrible movie.

Having characters die off screen (Did they even watch alien 3!?) is always a terrible idea. Huge plot inconsistencies with how the aliens were created. That movie just totally undid prometheus and I loved that movie. Covenant is trash!!

Prometheus had problems with the plot, even the main leading character was blurry. People couldn't be sure David was the lead until people watched Covenant. Dr Shaw was no second Ripley.
BAT 08.03.20	requiem better than prometheus? when i saw prometheus in theaters the projectors harddrive died 40mins in, it was still a better experience than seeing requiem on christmas day. alien 3 put me to sleep everytime i tried

You weren't even sure Ripley was the lead in Alien until most of the crew, especially the captain died. These movies have always been about a female protagonist prevailing despite the men ignoring them and making completely stupid decisions. Even if Shaw wasn't as good as Ripley, she was still better than Daniels in Covenant and went through more shit on her quest for answers. I declare war on Covenant and everyone who likes it.

notagenius 08.03.20	@DarkHorizontal I was just trying to say that prometheus would be assumed to be in the same heroine mode by the viewers, but Dr. Shaw's death brought it into the different theme of prometheus itself (, artificial intelligence). A positive surprise in my opinion. I'm still heavily fascinated by this story so looking forward to prometheus 3.
Joeman82 08.03.20	Covenant is absolutely the worst Michael Fassbender teaching clone Michael Fassbender how to play the flute and saying “I’ll finger and you’ll blow” was the highlight of the film. That’s pretty telling.
Divaman 08.03.20	I enjoyed Prometheus. I get the criticism, and it's valid. But the film had atmosphere, and Fassbinder was great.
Divaman 08.03.20	Aliens3 is 3, though. The main reason people hated it was because it erased the second film, and everyone loves the second film. But if you can let that go, 3 is pretty good.
Divaman 08.03.20	And the first AvP film was no great film, but it was pretty fun. I'd rate these as 1, 2, 3, 8, 7 and a bunch of films I don't give a rat's ass about. I don't think I've ever watched 4 from beginning to end. The snippets I've seen didn't catch my attention. 5 was pretty bad, and for me, 6 was the worst.

This prometheus series has a huge appeal to me for its content is above those space monsters. I want to list two thoughts of mine which I believe were overlooked when people talked about the movies. 1. scientific hints of human origins in there. people are now starting to question Darwin's theory of evolution a lot, replacing it with the idea that the mutated evolution of species is very likely due to viruses, as the black liquid in the movie. 2. the potentially destructive power of AI in the future. Now if there was exposure to neural network algorithms, you would know that machine creativity is being pursued (e.g. GAN), but none of the potentially dangerous consequences are currently being considered. It's highlighted in the Covenant. The screenplay is brilliant to me

Ecnalzen 08.04.20	This is a great franchise for the most part, but I remember not being into Prometheus at all when it was in theaters and haven't seen Covenant. Kinda forgot Covenant was a thing until recently, actually. AvP were fun but I remember them (or maybe mostly the second one) being too damn dark to really see what was going on in a lot of the action sequences. I swear I have seen Alien3 but when I was looking into the movies again after playing Isolation recently, I don't really remember anything about it.

Ecnalzen 08.06.20	Interesting. If it ever happens to show up on one of the streaming services I use, I might give it a go just to see. I would probs need to see Prometheus again, too, tho. The only thing I remember from that movie is towards the end (maybe?) when some big circular thing is rolling towards them and they keep on truckin straight ahead even tho they could easily go off to the side and not get smooshed by it.

riffariffic7 08.06.20	The new Predator movie is at least unintentionally hilarious in the most hair-brained, highly offensive sort of way. I hate that movie, but at least it tries to be fun. Requiem depressed the hell outta me after watching it. It's such a mean-spirited, absolutely disgusting movie that has some of the worst cinematography and lighting I've ever seen on-film.
