My Early Club/Dance Years
Last year marked 10 years of me getting a promoting gig at a club in Miami called Grand Central. The club changed my life and began my true love for electronic and dance music. I was thankful to go to a majority of their nights for free. List is stuff I was digging and hearing out at the time (2013-2015) |
1 | | Rae Sremmurd SremmLife
No Flex Zone and No Type were regularly played and always got the crowd going crazy |
2 | | Migos Young Rich Niggas
Hannah Montana and Versace would fall into the same category. |
3 | | Travis Scott Rodeo
Not really a Travis fan but hearing Antidote in the club hits differently |
4 | | TNGHT TNGHT
Every DJ played either Higher Ground or Buggn, not sure how I'd feel about that today. |
5 | | Boys Noize Mayday
One of the most fun DJs you can catch live. For fans of electro house and acid. |
6 | | Gesaffelstein Conspiracy PT. II
Miss the old Gesaffelstein stuff. He really hasn't dropped any bangers since Aleph. His b2b with The Hacker was my first proper electro/techno experience and was super formative. |
7 | | Brodinski Bromance #7
Brodinski kind of had a mini residency at the club hosting different Bromance nights. Lots of trippy and fun club music which were always some of our most memorable nights. |
8 | | SBTRKT SBTRKT
This album has aged like fine wine, not a bad track on here. Shame he hasn't topped this since. |
9 | | Disclosure Settle
Another well aged album being a tasteful com bo of house and pop. Was lucky enough to see them perform almost the whole album during a live set. |
10 | | Cashmere Cat Mirror Maru
This and the Wedding Bells EP had Miami shook, very nostalgic and fun release. |
11 | | RL Grime VOID
Fun trap music, not much else to say |
12 | | Pretty Lights Taking Up Your Precious Time
Everyone around me swore that this guy was the greatest modern electronic artist. Didn't see the hype then and still don't now. Painfully mid. |
13 | | Gramatik Street Bangerz Vol. 2
Instrumental hip hop jams that serve as great background music. |
14 | | A-Trak Tuna Melt
A-Trak is always a fun DJ to see because he mixes turntablism in his sets. Each time I saw him was different and engaging. Highlight was a free Art Basel party with Trick Daddy, Young Thug, Travis Scott, Flosstradamus and Danny Brown. |
15 | | Wolfgang Gartner Weekend In America
Mainstream electro house which is very fun live. Have not revisited since this time period to see how its aged. |
16 | | Skrillex Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites
Saw Skrillex on the Mothership tour at Bonnaroo 2014 and this is where I became a fan. I've never been a fan of his productions tbh but he really is a fun/skilled DJ who can rock the party. |
17 | | John Talabot Fin
Went to III points festival in 2014 to see Four Tet and he dropped day of show. Talabot was the replacement and holy crap he was amazing! Dark and trippy house and techno that made a huge impression on me. Prob my fav set from that weekend. |
18 | | Jamie xx In Colour
Was lucky enough to see Jamie twice in this time frame. Once closing after Talabot's aforementioned set and another at an Art Basel show. He rocked both and converted me into a fan. |
19 | | Four Tet Beautiful Rewind
Got to see him play a closing set after Jamie XX and it really showed me that DJs can play anything and make it cohesive. The effortless transitions from a banger like Love Cry to dub reggae without losing the flow of the set was awesome. |
20 | | Tale Of Us North Star / Silent Space
At one point in time these guys were dropping some solid melodic techno. They have really fallen from grace in recent years unfortunately. |
