Swans Studio Albums Ranked

This is after 1 listen although some of them I've gone back to since I started on my Swans journey
1Swans
The Seer

Cosmic Dread in wave form. Loved this one instantly and will probably stay a long lasting favorite-

Rating: 5/5
Favorite Song: The Seer
2Swans
The Great Annihilator

Amazing post-punky Goth Rock. Pretty much no skips. Good shit!

Rating: 4.5/5
Favorite Song: Blood Promise
3Swans
To Be Kind

I think this is what you get when you mix in a little bit of that David Byrne-like quirkiness into Swans sound and the result is really fucking cool
Rating: 4.5/5
Favorite Song: Nathalie Neal
4Swans
The Glowing Man

Instrumentally some of the greatest moments in their discography in my opinion but what drags it a bit down is that in some songs I found Gira's constant wailing a bit grating and cheesy. Still really enjoyed this though.

Rating: 4/5
Favorite Song: Finally, Peace
5Swans
Children of God

The sound of this album reminded me a little bit of Blasphemous Rumours era Depeche Mode which is a good thing.

Rating: 4/5
Favorite Song: Children of God
6Swans
The Beggar

Swans continues to put out good shit. Great listen

Rating: 4/5
Favorite Song: Ebbing
7Swans
Filth

Different sound. Really raw and aggressive. Will put some of this on my gym playlist

Rating: 3.5/5
Favorite Song: Stay Here
8Swans
Soundtracks for the Blind

Maybe the most underwhelming listen. Couldn't wait to get to this because of all the praise it gets but with the exception of a few key songs this is a lot of ambient noise and field recordings which I found hard to get through at some points as I tend to get bored by stuff like that.
Helpless Child is amazing though

Rating: 3.5/5
Favorite Song: Helpless Child
9Swans
White Light From the Mouth of Infinity

Still pretty good. Sits somewhere in between Children Of God and The Great Annihilator in terms of sound which makes sense considering when this came out I guess but there are some songs on here that I don't care for

Rating: 3.5/5
Favorite Song: Love Will Save You
10Swans
My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky

Feels like a warm up to The Seer. Still some great moments on here though

Rating:3.5/5
Favorite Song: Eden Prison
11Swans
Leaving Meaning

Bubble Bath Swans

Rating: 3.5/5
Favorite Song: It's Coming It's Real
12Swans
Love of Life

Worse companion of White Light

Rating: 3/5
Favorite Song: Her
13Swans
The Burning World

Pretty on par with Love of Life

Rating: 3/5
Favorite Song: God Damn the Sun
14Swans
Holy Money

Here's where they start to completely lose me. Pretty boring stuff and these last three are pretty much the worst produced albums in their whole discography. They lack the punch that Filth had.

Rating: 2/5
Favorite Song: None
15Swans
Cop

pretty much the same but somehow even worse

Rating: 1.5/5
Favorite Song: None
16Swans
Greed

Rating: 1.5/5
Favorite Song: None
