03.26.19 | How does an album go from a 5 to a 1? I could understand going down to the 3-4 range if it grew off you, but a 1? |
BerryGarlicia
03.27.19 | I never had dark roots at a 5
I had it at 6th pace and it went down 5 spots is what I mean
I had fond memories of it at one point and listened to it maybe 2 weeks ago and when it ended I thought to myself, “this is hot fucking garbage” |

03.27.19 | Very interesting ranking.
5 > 3 > 1 > 4 > 10 > 7 > 2 > 9 > 6 > 11 > 8
Nothing here is lower than a 3 tbh. Testament is a testament to awesome thrash m/ |

03.27.19 | Any testament list with the first 3 in the top 5 is a reasonable list |

03.27.19 | How does an album go from a 5 to a 1? [2]
Horrid ranking btw. No way PWYP is better than the previous two albums. Souls of Black and The Ritual are very underrated, I think. |

03.27.19 | It didn’t go from a 5 to a 1, it went fro ma 3.5 to a 1
I think the confusion is it was in 6th place and it went down 5 spots |

03.27.19 | Dark Roots is in no way a 1. It's probably the weakest of their comeback albums, but one of the worst albums ever made?? No way. Out of curiosity, why do you think Brotherhood is so much better?
First 3 and Formation are my favourites.

03.27.19 | I think overall the album is weak. It has a horrible case of boringly meandering with the one of the two long songs doesn’t go anywhere interesting (throne of thorns) the other long song (cold embrace) being one of the 2 songs I like entirely. Another flaw is almost all of the tracks are a similar higher mid tempo that makes it have the feeling of waking up after getting an hour of sleep and trudging about along with half of the album is song a little over 5 minutes; 4 of these 6 songs of nearly the same length are right nest to each other in the first half of the album. But the true travesty here is the cringe lyrics, be it “rise up” “native blood” “last stand for independance” or “dragon attack” dark roots has no shortage of cringe lyrics, coupled with a sub par performance from Chuck Billy ruins anything it could have achieved. Clocking in at an hour 16 minutes it drags incredibly hard. On the complete different end of the spectrum, brotherhood meanders only very slightly at the tail end of the record, doesn’t even have any long songs, the track length varies reasonably and the songs are distributed well to avoid monotony. The tempo of the songs also vary much more than on dark roots, say “stronghold” to “seven seals;” the songwriting is far more creative and the Album is a focused effort on the conspiracy concept. The lyrics on brotherhood don’t make me internally sigh, and while Black jack’s lyrics are eye rollingly sad, it’s a one off with a good enough instrumental backing to make up for itself. Not to mention Chuck Billy’s vocals on brotherhood are arguably his best, and brotherhood also being vastly heavier than other testament offerings. With a run time of 45 minutes (right in the sweet spot) brotherhood is better than dark roots in every way conceivable.
Overall, dark roots isn’t “bad” but it falls into what would be the concept of the uncanny valley of sorts, applied to music, something feels off about it and is hard to place why one wouldn’t like it, and I just find it appalling. The only highlights of dark roots are cold embrace and a day in the death. |

03.28.19 | Brotherhood at 2 - wtf. Cheers mate I'm glad you're listening to Testament at least. |

03.28.19 | I agree it's the weakest of the 3 comeback albums and meanders a little. However does that really warrant a 1? That would suggest its one of the worst albums ever.
I personally really like Throne of Thorns - it's probably my favourite on the album.
I don't think the lyrics are any better or worse than anything Testament has done. Same with the vocals - if anything they are closest on this album to the classic stuff.
Regarding the length - the album is 50 mins / 9 songs. The others are bonus - 3 covers and 1 extended version (granted I don't see the point in the extended one - they should have just put this on the album).

03.28.19 | i use the 1-5 system of sput as 1-10
i'd have dark roots as a 2.5/10 but cn't with 1-5 not the worst thing ever but certainly not good |
