| Talented but unknown bands
Finally took the time to add a few bands to the data base that totally deserve to be listened to. I discovered most of them at the ArcTanGent Festival 2018 in Bristol, UK. This festival describes itself as "The Award-winning (...) music festival for connoisseurs of Math-rock, Post-rock, Noise-rock, Alt-rock and everything in between" which is fairly true. They also asked the bands to make a "for fans of" (FFO) which I added to every band. | | 1 |  | Behind the Shadow Drops
H a r m o n i c
Let's start with a new band that is a side project of Takaakira 'Taka' Goto from the rather well-known Japanese experimental rock group MONO. However, this album (his only one yet) is a little more electronic and quieter than MONO. Need a timeout? Give this a spin.

Solstice
This spanish atmospheric post-rock group is - quite like the aforementioned "Behind the Shadow Drops" - something for a rather calm mood, but a little "dreamier" and from time to time a bit heavy but never hard. When they were on stage, I actually layed down in the grass and closed my eyes to enjoy this experience even more.

Expedition 001
These two fellas rocked the whole tent combining the best of "The Prodigy" with heavy guitars and drums that just want you to move. They also have some people in white overalls and black sunglasses at their live shows to heat up the crowd, which was a nice gimmick.

Vilseledd
Some of you may know this grindy/mathy hardcore band from Sweden from the second part of the Dillinger Escape Plan's farewell tour in Europe. My second time seeing them live was as fun as the first time, even though I don't listen to their music at home at all. You know shit is getting real when the vocalist steps into the crowd with his mic before they even started playing. Also enjoyed the mic cable limbo he set up as alternative to wall of death.

Opening a stage of a festival at 11am might not be the most thankful job at your average festival. But at the ATG there were two bands taking the chance and just nailed it. One of them are Seven Colour Drive. They combine dreamy, atmospheric post-rock with some fast and heavy riffs. When I first looked them up, I was somewhat shocked that they only had about 350ish likes on facebook (as far as this is a proper measurement for popularity). I mean, my old soccer team had as much likes as them and we were basically just drinking beer and kicking the ball here and then while they have real talent.

Digital Immigrant EP
Imagine Muse and System of a Down having a baby and while being pregnant the mother took an overdose LSD which is The Dillinger Escape Plan. Said baby is the band that played at 11am to open the stage on Sunday and I was blown away. When I read their self-description with the above mentioned three bands I was like "pff, yeah, bring it on" - well, after listening to them I can't think of three bands that are more accurate to describe them. They are weird, but I love them. You need to check them out.

FROIDEPIERRE
This french trio makes the most fun post-rock (with a nice addition of electronics) I know. While going a little more atmospheric with their recent album FROIDEPIERRE in comparison to their fast and sonic adventure "Symmetry", it is still music that makes you move. There is a pro-shot of their song "Event Horizon" from last years festival on youtube.

The Flowers of Romance
One of the best gigs of the festival! Brilliant live sound (the ATG festival really knows its shit) and three japanese guys on stage all going totally nuts on their two keyboards and one drum set. Just imagine your favourite guitar player rampaging a totally sick solo on this strings - and now think of him as piano or keyboard player. Additionally the drum player steals the show every now and then, while slaying the drums in a fast pace that I just saw one time while watching Night Verses' drum god Aric Improta. However, mouse on the keys are always adding different elements of jazz like saxophones and on their newest albm "TRES" even guest vocalists like Jordan Dreyer of La Dispute to their songs, which gives it the fresh variety it needs. If you like some technical jazz fusion, give them a shot.

The only band on this list that did not play at the ATG, therefore I kinda tried to do the FFO by myself. If you have some better suggestion, please write down below. However, I discovered them when someone in the ArcTanGent facebook event mentioned and recommended them. Coming from Malaysia, there was probably no chance heared from them otherwise. mutesite manage it to mix jazzy piano like the above mentioned mouse on the keys with some rather fast post-/math-rock in a very fresh way. While most bands add the piano only for details it is here one of the main features. I can highly recommend these guys.

How To Let Go
While mouse on the keys and mutesite use the piano in a fast paced, technical with way more energy, Blanket are kinda like their little emo brother. They combine the piano with some neatly crafted post-rock à la "Explosions in the Sky" to create a rather sad, emotional atmosphere. They also add vocals to a few song which keeps their newest album "How To Let Go" exciting even after a few spins. Last but not least they released a cover of one of the best Deftones' song - "Knife Prty" - and nailed it perfectly.

01.09.19 | yeah, it is much less technical and I think the reason is the implementation of the guest vocalists. It is basically the reversed process you could observe in Night Verses, where the vocalist left the band and they were going fully mental as an instrumental band | EclipseInYourEyes
