11.15.17 | Agnostic, but open minded. I've been reading lots of pagan mythology lately and, as metaphorical guidelines for existence rather than a literal interpretation of elemental gods or whatever, the focus on cooperation with your environment and "tribe" is appealing and interesting. I'm not a pagan though, just using it as an example because I think there's value to exploring a theoretical understanding via metaphor alongside a more concrete understanding of the world. In that sense I think a common "myth" can be useful for a community, whatever that might be. Roundabout way of saying I don't necessarily believe in some deity and I don't have a religion, but I think there's value in an understanding of the world beyond that which is immediately obvious. Imo something like that doesn't have to be based on rigorous ritual or a true belief in some higher power, it's just a potentially helpful way to conceptualise the world. |

Here in Denmark, christiantiy is the state religion, which leads to all kinds of unnecessary stupidity.
Consider the US president swearing on 3 bibles. Does that create respect for the office in anyone who finished grade school? No, it makes it look weird and cultish and lowers the bar of rationality immensely.

DrMaximus
11.17.17 | Mao, stalin, pol pot to name a few. All I'm saying is the idea that christianity has resulted in nothing more than corruption and that atheim is the answer is absurd, at least that's how I interpreted egarrans comments |
Dedes
11.17.17 | I think religion certainly has a plentitude of issues however it has the potential to be something more pure than the way people currently interpret it. As for the "Christian" form of sterilization I guess you're referring to circumcision which is stupid I agree but it doesn't actually sterilize anyone. |
swipenet
11.17.17 | I get that those guys were horrible apathetic assholes who each killed millions of people (tens of millions in the cases of the first two), but I don't exactly see how atheism had anything to do with their regimes. I don't think any of us are saying atheism is the final solution, but historically religious motivation has accounted for far more atrocities, e.g. the Crusades, slavery, many if not most invasions, etc.
Circumcision would be more of a Jew/Muslim thing, but yeah it's the norm in the US because of some bullshit religious propaganda in the 1920s. I agree it's completely stupid unless there's a medical reason.
I think Egarran was more referring to abortion/no sex before marriage (abstinence) though. Could be wrong. |

My point was actually that christianity is aggressive atheism and a denial of divinity, just with another name and a few rituals slapped on.
There is no sign of them having any kind of divine guidance. Their very existence is proof that there is no biblical god. But it might very well prove that LUCIFER IS KING and his demons, disguised as clerics and religious politicians, have infiltrated humans to spread evil across the world.

"TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WATE) – Police say two people were accidentally shot at a church in Tellico Plains Thursday afternoon during a discussion about the recent church shooting in Texas.
The Tellico Plains Police Department says elder members of First United Methodist Church were meeting for a Thanksgiving dinner around 1 p.m. and began discussing the Texas shooting when someone asked if anyone brought a gun to their church.
A man spoke up and said he carries his everywhere he goes. He pulled the gun out, emptied the magazine and chamber, and then started passing the gun around.
Once the gun came back around to its owner, police say the man put the magazine back in and recharged the chamber, but accidentally squeezed the trigger. The gun went off, hitting the man in the hand and his wife in the abdomen." |

So many people have been swathed by this crap that they don’t want to feel ostracized when they actually critically think and realize the gaping logical inconsistencies that are all over scripture. Why make progress when they’re content as is?

This has already started to happen in some parts of the world, personally I'm struggling to think of more than a couple of people under a certain age who are known (by me) to follow a faith. Most religious people in the UK now are either from the older generations or ethnic minorities. Christianity is dying here, it's just taking a long time. |

its not that theyre morons, its that they are brought up in an environment where religious myths are taught to them to be the truth and no countering point of view or "proper" education is ever an option for them
its like the idea that if you or i were born and raised in the environment that bred nazism in 1930s/40s germany we would be just as likely to succumb to those toxic views as they were, you can apply that to the likelihood of following a religion today in parts of the world with very high rates of theistic belief |

11.19.17 | religion can have worth beyond just 'believing in something' you cant prove. it has also provided large societies with lasting common values and ethics which is an important shared basis for a society. so even if ur an athiest or an agnostic you actually benefit from the existence of a society based in a judeo-christian value system whether you like it or not. since humans widely consider themselves transcendent of the animal hierarchy the ideas of what is right and wrong in nature that metric doesnt really apply to us. so fairy tales and religion and mythology help create the shared values that keep a society together and influence said societies well beyond the reach of their scientific validity. but for the most part i agree that if religion makes you a happy decent person do it up i dont care but if it makes you an evil person you are garbage. |

11.19.17 | Over the last couple of years I've moved away from atheism to a sort of deism valuing the core of world religions without the exoteric details. That transition has been largely influenced by writers like Rene Guenon and Frithjof Schuon. Like Pots was saying earlier, religion has had an immense social value that one has to consider alongside any of its ills. We have gained something as a society by moving in an ostensibly more empirical or scientific direction, but lost a unifying force in our communities and nations. I also think the idea that we've replaced religion with rationality to be laughable, since there seems to be very little rational basis to the most peoples' world view or even to corporate or government policy. |

11.19.17 | lol yea shapiro is an orthodox jew, so it's pretty comical to see herds of college kids chant about him being a nazi and what not. and the main value i've seen come out of psychedelic use has been occasional shifts in perception that sometimes redound in healthier, more extricated ways of thinking. but then of course some people have the opposite reaction so |

this is fine. i just hate when people elevate the effects of drugs from scientifically sound conclusions about their effects to saying the dmt machine elves are most certainly real and if you haven't met them yet you don't know god.
like that shit is honestly even more profoundly outrageous than most legitimate religions unless you count scientology. |

11.20.17 | oh i'm with you there. i know a couple people like that. they try to color people as close-minded and sheepish for not wanting to do dmt all the time lol... like they're just scared of discovering the "truth" |

11.20.17 | Re Potz. I have always and will always promote the psychedelic experience to sound minded people. I really dont care how that comes across. Usually people shouting it down are people who drink copious amounts of booze which i have equally never understood. Not in search of 'god' but soley because an intense trip is such a profound experience that if you were to die and not experience that I feel your actually missing out. I think its good for everyone to have the ego completely smashed and connect with nature from time to time. The same way I think if you havent travelled your missing out etc The same way my friend wants me to jump out of a plane! etc etc
But my only real 'spiritual' experience I had and had multiple times was on DMT. Its not just 'seeing the elves' I find the make up of it, the fact of how close it is to tryptophan biochemically, The fact it exists in all living things, That its been used by tribes for so long, all the shit im sure you know makes it far more facisnating than your everyday psychs. Im well aware it could 'just be a drug' fucking with me. But a couple of weeks doing Ayahuasca in the amazon made me think different. I want ALL my friends to at least have the experience. But I dont push it. Its not a fucking joke. But if they ever feel the need or want to dive in ill most definitely help them. But if anyone who is aggressively saying its all bullshit theres a real easy way to find out for yourself and it takes 10 mins. If a priest told me he could show me god in 10 mins and it didnt include a cock up my hoop Id be down of course.
I dont think im better than anyone or know anything special and theres lots of different avenues to the same conclusion/place that doesnt mean taking anything but what has happened to me while on the thing was literally not in me before hand. Ive seen so many things I dont have words for. I had this little fucking creature once show me a colour ive never seen before laughing telling me to tell my friends I only realised when I got back I couldnt cos we literally dont have words for it. I can still see it but I still cant explain it.
Does that mean theres a god or a place yadda yadda of course not but I believe theres SOMETHING to it that I cant quite put into any words and the only thing ive ever experienced that I feel COULD be something along those lines. Im sure moses said the same thing when he had some fucking voice in his head. I mean you could argue many Religions were started through drug Use. John Allegro believes christianity came from a mushroom fertility cult after he studied the dead sea scrolls in the 60s and was laughed at with similar disdain. I think they are at the root, many times Intertwined. |

11.20.17 | Thats why I went to the Amazon Aiwaz. First time I wanted to be in its 'home' and i definitely feel that added to it. I felt safe with the shamen too.
Your subconscious is going 'Im in the fucking Amazon!!' over and over. Its such tourist drug now though, Its harder to find real Shaman. I heard of one place doing Aya session here in the UK and on the come down they put Adele on the fucking radio. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
11.20.17 | My aunt has a really good shaman that she goes to in Peru. if i ever do it again it will be there with him because of that reason, he's a trusted source so i dont have to worry about that |
Deez
11.20.17 | I think its hugely important. At least first few occasions. I remember watching some documentary on youtube about a retreat down there and I just felt something was wrong with their shamen, I have no idea why, just felt it. 2 years later he fucking buried some kid who died in ceremony and told his parent he wasnt there. |
Deez
11.20.17 | The first one was was in a retreat with about 15 people. An aussie guy i met in Laos 5 years earlier met me in peru and we went over together but stayed opposite ends of the room. By the end there where 5 people left on the last day (4th session) haha. I then took a boat down the amazon and hooked up with a guy who took me to another shamen deeper in the Amazon proper for a 1 on 1 session. I swear ive never been so scared. Pitch black in the amazon with a shamen I dont know and a peruvian I just met and trusted in the middle of the damn amazon about to drink the most hallucinogenic drug on the planet. Was a real 'nowhere to run' moment. |

My lifes filled with moments like that hahah But i distinctly remember before that last session going 'fuck what am I doing?'. I just had to steady myself and breathe. That session turned out to not really be that powerful or insightful. I just kinda felt drunk. Some stuff happened but was slightly dissapointing. The 2 guys had to carry me back to the hut and luckily didnt bum me. |

11.20.17 | Yeah its a tourist drug now down there (iquitos mainly). The same type of people potz was talking about. I know people that live there and they say every local guy now says hes a shaman. Of course. These people with no money see these rich ass gringos flooding the place. Thats another reason I felt I had to go do a one on one. Theres been multiple rape accounts from woman by these fuckers too now. One of the most well known retreats where all the rich fuckers go was about 2-4 grand for a week!! Whats the point going to the amazon and getting pampered like its the hilton |

11.20.17 | yeah theres some sort of painfully hilarious irony in paying copious amounts of money to stay in luxurious conditions to take a drug that strips away all the bullshit and teaches your the false value of material goods and luxuries
whatev though, more money for people that need it |
Deez
11.20.17 | 'I went to the amazon to do ayahuasca' is actually 'I took a luxury cabin boat down the amazon to my 4000 dollar retreat that had the rooms cleaned every day' The amazon is nuts though,The amount of tarantulas that come out at night time is insane. Theres no cool David attenborough voice narrating everything for you. Youre just basically surrounded by swarms mosquitos that bite through your clothes and constantly screaming 'Arrrrgghhh just fuck off!!' |
Egarran
11.23.17 | Thanks deezer for the stories.
There's a reason why religious people and psychonauts are so anxious to share their experience with the rest of the world. They had a valuable insight that went beyond the science and rationality we consider normal. It's very easy to become preachy after that.
If you were desperate and prayed to Jesus and he actually appeared and comforted you by putting things into some divine perspective, no doubt you would go on a mission to convert the poor nonbelievers. (It's just too bad and not important that the rest of the mythology is stupid.)
"I need ego death."
Psilocybin can fix that, no shaman required. |
Orb
11.23.17 | "Ive died too many times to count" pretty much sums up my experiences with heavy doses and I wouldn't trade those insights for the world. Ive met a lot of preachy psychonauts and it kind of drives me crazy when they pull the same holier-than-thou card on people that zealous religious folks do but at the same time I totally get it ya know? Personally I just make art to come to terms with heavy trips but everyone integrates experiences differently. I think a lot of these people want nothing more than some external affirmation that the intangible experiences theyve had carry some merit in the physical world. Im just over here dreaming of the day when the western world stops treating psychedelic spirituality as some weird taboo thing to be looked down upon. Share these "we are all God dont you see" revelations with a Hindu or Buddhist and they will probably give you a big smile and a hug. Generally speaking if you try pulling that card in the Abrahamic world and you'll likely get laughed out of the room. /endrant |

Deez
11.23.17 | Yeah I totally agree Egarran. We are creatures of experience or at least should be. If an alien spaceship comes down and takes me into space and fingers my bum all night before dropping me back off yet NO ONE believes me does that make it not real? If it happened to me? What we as humans quantify as real are things you can put in a box or hit with hammer. The experience is real. So i get anyone whos had that experience with anything Jesus/God/Yoga/Meditation whatever. Your ego over time will try and tell you it wasnt but deep down you know. Im sure MANY who have these experiences know deep down theyre lying also. We have a hang up about the word 'God' also , being From a white christian country like mine i HATE that word because theres so much baggage attached. You have to say that word but that 'god' isnt what i mean.
What I saw, felt and believe through the Ayayhuasca was some kind of place that was just energy, Light and energy. I was 'shown' something of my Grandmother who was an angel (not an actual one) and brought over 50 foster children into her house in her life and died with cancer in her 50s. I got 'shown' this kind of pink, ribbon like light and was told that was kinda like the essence of what made her a good person at her core. When she ded she doesnt exist shes gone, Like ill be gone. But that essence gets reused into something or someone else, a new life. It actually showed me a vision of a woman someone in the world and said that this woman had the same thing that was in my grandmother, What made her a beautiful person was literally in this girl but not to look for her or any shit because its not her.
Wether thats complete horseshit coming from unknown part of my brain and the shittons of drugs ive just took (again saying its just drugs in regards to ayahuasca and DMT given its history and its link bio chemically doesnt stand with me) or not what it did do it make me completely unafraid of death. So it doesnt really matter whether its real or not and to that point i understand people who feel the same about God/Jesus etc TO A POINT. but all the other bullshit that goes with it is sickening and a distortion and I think a lot of people want to push a certain experience to being 'from god' rather than it actually being one. some people dont give themselves enough credit for doing something and making it happen and give all thanks to god. Based an experience that didnt really happen therefore Solidifying that belief. |
