2007 |
1 | | Epica The Divine Conspiracy
A great album without a doubt. An excellent mixure of hard-hitting heavies, soul-crushing ballads and mind-blowing epics makes sure this album remains consistant throughout its entire runtime, with even the filler songs still being pretty good overall. The main problem here is production and sound quality which could be better, but the songs themselves are strong enough to make this issue seem relatively minor. |
2 | | Iced Earth Framing Armageddon |
3 | | Symphony X Paradise Lost
This album is definitely a start of something special. Although by this point, Symphony X have already been one of the most successful and prolific progressive metal acts in the world, this album, is the first one to feature their unique mordern style of the more recent years, which in my opinion is a huge step in the right direction. I'm not going to say Paradise Lost is a perfect album, because it most certainly isn't, but it is the prototype of what will eventually become Symphony X's musical identity and that's amazing. In this album they brought in some of the aspects they needed so bad for their entire career: production here is top notch, it's heavy and rough at times and soft and mellow at others, and sonically it just works. I like this one a lot, even with all of its cons. |
4 | | Rush Snakes & Arrows |
5 | | Earthless Rhythms From a Cosmic Sky |
6 | | Machine Head The Blackening |
7 | | Evile Enter the Grave
It's so crazy to think this album came out in 2007, not in 1987. This is thrash in its purest form. And while I'm always happy to see bands change and evolve, this is a delightful relic from the past, made out of sheer love to a dying genre. |
8 | | Alter Bridge Blackbird
With this album their sound evolved to what we're used to today. Seems like they really dig it, since musically, they stayed pretty much the same ever since. Anyway, although I did like their first album's style better, this album represents growth which is always a good thing, and the album is overall great. |
9 | | As I Lay Dying An Ocean Between Us
Loved this album. Really solid from start to finish. Great, great stuff.
I really don't know that much about the metalcore as a genre since I'm fairly new to it, but this might me my favorite metalcore album so far. |
10 | | Dream Theater Systematic Chaos
This album is pretty weird to be honest, all the songs here are good but nothing clicks on a level beyond that. Still, a great and solid album and a good time overall. |
11 | | Pagan's Mind God's Equation |
12 | | Porcupine Tree Fear of a Blank Planet |
13 | | Airbourne Runnin' Wild
Great debut by Airbourne. These guys know what kind of music they like and they play just that - This album could easily be mistaken for an AC/DC album. Awesome stuff. |
14 | | Neal Morse Sola Scriptura
While not necessarily my absolute favorite Neal Morse album, it's an excellent one and a classic for a reason. The Door is a magnificent track. |
