05.02.17 | Again, most of these I enjoy and this is an opinionated list, so please don't crucify me. |
Dedes
05.02.17 | Wanna know an overrated band that will really get people all rustled?
Darkthrone.
Also people won't crucify you as hard if you can really justify your reasoning. Although this is Sput so yeah they'll still crucify you kind of. |
dreamgauze
05.02.17 | With you on 4 and 7 so hard... 4 kinda just that album though. Black Sabbath self-titled and Vol 4 are quite nasty, other stuff from that era is eh. |
Dedes
05.02.17 | The Beatles are vastly overrated yeah, mostly write ridiculously simple boring rock that just so happens to be catchy and contain occasional good hooks. |
Dedes
05.02.17 | Yes |
MeatSalad
05.02.17 | Paranoid is overrated, yeah. I've always thought their s/t is by far their best |
Sevengill
05.02.17 | 1-6 agree, last two not so much. Can't really defend Burzum though. It's just a state of mind; a hazy, introspective inner peace that the album brings. |
Asdfp277
05.02.17 | 7 is great, 8 is good, rest i agree i guess |
danielito19
05.02.17 | i feel like ive seen this exact list before is this a repost
|
Dedes
05.02.17 | Really? I actually feel like it was their pinnacle of creativity, like they had finally pushed the envelope for how well the more bleak style of DM/Prog metal could be composed |
50iL
05.02.17 | 5 I slightly agree with, 6's complaints I totally get, and 3 is super overrated agreed |
Kompys2000
05.02.17 | Agree on all except 5 actually
|
Nazzadan
05.02.17 | Yeah half of 5 is probably some of the worst Bruce-era Maiden possible.
7 rules through and through though. |
Maco097
05.02.17 | 2 and 5 are truly overrated though. |
someguest
05.02.17 | Have you thought about writing as a career? You have some original ideas. |
huskerdoo
05.02.17 | how dare you |
Dedes
05.02.17 | "well kingded, that is true. I still listen to it but like, everything after that didn't catch my interest at all and I just didn't like it when it came out. I wanted more Morningrise style :("
Yeah they really released a big fuck you to fans of both Blackwater Park era Opeth and Morningrise/Still Life era Opeth with their last few records. I'd be certainly happy if they pulled out even a weaker successor to Morningrise. |
JeetJeet
05.02.17 | Jane Doe, Nevermind, & Reign In Blood are all overrated. And yeah I'm with you on Burzum. Garbage. |
dbizzles
05.02.17 | I have..... feelings... about this.
3 is their best album. No, I haven't heard The Stage because I knew after City of Evil that I didn't need to hear them ever again to know they'd be producing a worse, more watered down version of it until they made enough money to die. Unholy Confessions and Chapter 4 are the best one-two this band ever stumbled into.
7? K, so that's not even the best Burzum album and if you don't like Varg or the style, then what did you expect? No shitty Dimebag ballads here. Move along.
8? Got over-hyped a bit for me when I was finally getting into Opeth, but it is still up there in the god-tier realm of metal that Opeth used to put out over and over before they turned in their balls for a sound even radio doesn't want. This was my first Opeth album and it served well to send me on a hour ey through their discog, but it's still not my favorite. Morningrise is my shit. |
dbizzles
05.02.17 | Oh, here's a positive comment since I was dick before. ALL of Dream Theater is overrated, imo.
I'd say they are easily top-5 for most overrated bands in any genre. I haven't given them too much time nor have I focused on any specific album, but when everything you've heard by a progressive band sounds like said progressive band, when do we stop calling it progressive? They are just their own brand of 'OMG look at us, we are different! Look at us! Wow!' Sorry, guys, but fuck Dream Theater. |
cylinder
05.02.17 | agreed with 6.. and 8 probably too, tho it takes til like Dirge for November to fall off for me. the first four songs are perfect imo
Paranoid is a masterpiece tho. i get what you're saying about the band but i think the fact that they put out so much good shit so quickly is enough to justify their position at the top |
dbizzles
05.02.17 | Yeah, my thing with Black Sabbath is I really wish I'd been around to see them put out shit like Paranoid. I'll never be able to grasp the impact they were making and I'll probably never appreciate them enough as a result. |
cylinder
05.02.17 | that would go for most older music then, wouldn't it? it can definitely be difficult to latch onto older stuff when it's only gotten farther from its original context.. but shit, if it's good enough |
dbizzles
05.02.17 | I'm not sure. It would definitely go for most 'innovative' music of the past, yeah. |
Veldin
05.02.17 | I agree with everything but Paranoid by Sabbath. That album is perfect |
Astral Abortis
05.02.17 | If you think Darkthrone are overrated then you're a poser |
Astral Abortis
05.02.17 | Same with Black Sabbath |
Minushuman24
05.02.17 | I can kinda see where you're coming from on Reign In Blood
But Paranoid is fucking amazing
|
tempest--
05.02.17 | "I think they get much more praise than they deserve"
i mean they created heavy metal so........................................................ |
Minushuman24
05.02.17 | Oh, no don't get me wrong, I can kinda see where he's going but Reign in Blood is still a hard 5 for me |
neekafat
05.02.17 | 3 is like their 4th best but still really great |
EphemeralEternity
05.02.17 | you're a mong |
Typhoon24
05.02.17 | switch 5 with powerslave and im with ya. notb was better but ranked lower i think |
Typhoon24
05.02.17 | ohhh i thought it was 4.5 v 4.2, not 4.4. nah nvm both are overrated |
SitruK6
05.02.17 | Hell Awaits > Reign In Blood
|
SitruK6
05.02.17 | on topic now, 2,7 and 8 are amazing albums imo |
Piglet
05.02.17 | now i'm not saying i advocate blasphemy laws, but anyone saying black sabbath is overrated needs to have their ears mutilated by hungry mongooses |
smaugman
05.02.17 | anthrax got a few good records, but their discography is quite inconsistent |
manosg
05.02.17 | Overrated my ass. 4-6 are metal classics and 2 & 7 are classics within their respective genres. It's one thing when you don't enjoy an album much or at all, which is perfectly acceptable, and another when you think that your taste is so great which makes the said albums overrated. |
SacredSerenity
05.02.17 | Except Opeth I am with you. Even if you might be too harsh with Anthrax. |
fullautorpg
05.02.17 | and another when you think that your taste is so great which makes the said albums overrated.
Um, no, I don't think my taste is so great that they are overrated, they just failed to live up to the hype that they receive on a near constant basis everywhere. |
manosg
05.02.17 | Does this make them overrated though? I mean, there will always be albums that we don't enjoy as much as a lot of guys. But going as far as to say that Black Sabbath who invented everything metal or The Beatles (who a couple of guys mentioned) who the vast majority of musicians such as Lemmy or even Brian Wilson admire, is too much. Our taste is one thing, being overrated is another. |
KManoc1
05.02.17 | "The Stage [is] much better."
I personally think that Waking the Fallen is much better than The Stage. Ironic, right?
P.S. The flame war is real. |
JigglyPDiddy
05.02.17 | Varg is a shit person making shit music. He once made an album with midi saxophones that sounded worse than Lisa Simpson playing the saxophone on an old recorded VHS tape of a re-run of the third season of The Simpsons on FOX, week nights at 7 only on FOX in 1997. |
deslad
05.02.17 | I disagree on almost all of them |
wham49
05.02.17 | "They are revered so highly to think anything bad about them is evil and that said person should be flogged." this is how I think, although I'll listen to any opinions on the matter as long it has some substance. Also as a BS elitist I think the BS albums 7 and 8 are terrible and an embarrassment to the band |
Sinternet
05.02.17 | 4 and 7 are just wrong
rest are pretty on the money |
guitarded_chuck
05.02.17 | saw paranoid and stopped reading |
Brewtality91
05.02.17 | I think Anthrax sucks, Idk anything about DT or Black Sabbath and then I disagree on everything else. All the rest are the height of those bands imo (except Powerslave >) |
wham49
05.02.17 | let him have his opinion chuck, 99% of the users would say he is nuts including me, but if he really thinks that good for him |
truekebabpower
05.02.17 | "Yeah half of 5 is probably some of the worst Bruce-era Maiden possible."
Agree hard, the album as a whole is just not listenable, although the it also has some of their best material namely Hallowed and Run to the Hills.
I will have to disagree on 2 and 8, love both those albums. |
wham49
05.02.17 | that is how I feel about the first 2 bruce albums, some of the best material with tons of filler |
AsleepInTheBack
05.02.17 | Description of 4 seems a bit odd; they get half the love they get because of what the pioneered and inspired. Add to that the fact that its aged so well and you've got a damn good album |
Divaman
05.02.17 | Can't get behind "Paranoid". Now I need a safe space. (Not really). |
wham49
05.02.17 | to be honest, BS has aged better than almost all the classic genre bands, they still sound fresh, and a good melding of metal, psych and doom, with a great jazz rhythm section to boot, I think that makes them seem so light and bouncy, while being so heavy at the same time |
KendrickIsGod
05.02.17 | NATION. is not overated tho hahaha 5.0 on sputnikmusic.com |
hasan
05.02.17 | black sabbath a good classic band |
Brandon
05.02.17 | 3 ain't overrated, do people even still listen to A7X? |
butcherboy
05.02.17 | sabbath are a bit overrated, given that they went down the drain as soon as iommi ran out of power chords to flog.. |
OldCrime
05.03.17 | Agree with #1. Also never really got the hype for the Beatles. |
romulanrancor
05.03.17 | 1, 4-8 aare classic yeah agreed |
