2020 underrated shite
hello, i've been lurking on this site for years now so figured i should contribute something!
2020 has been a maybe-not-so-surprisingly good year for music, despite being horrid otherwise, i wanted to share some favourites of mine so far that i think deserve some extra luv
thanks for reading everyone |
1 | | feelings club A Day in the Sun
lo-fi pop/emo tunes to drive into the sun to, kinda like post-breakup picnic vibes or something like that.. lil rough around the edges sure but this is a pretty fun album, if you liked glass beach last year i think you'd be into this |
2 | | Nicolas Jaar Telas
definitely my favourite of Nicolas Jaar's albums that have come out this year, listening to this along with exploring the companion website is a trip and very cool |
3 | | s.al SAFARI AL FORTNITES AT THE SCALLOPS HOTEL: The Fir
ignore the probably over-long album name, this is very worth checking out if you were into R.A.P Ferreira's album this year, Ferreira did the production here I believe. just beautiful jazzy samples and intimate stories to get lost in |
4 | | Ash Koosha Bluud
i can only describe this as a descent into hell if hell was somehow both full of cyborgs and music from the Italian Renaissance |
5 | | Moodie Black FUZZ
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa(noise) |
6 | | Shabaka and the Ancestors We Are Sent Here By History
jazz AOTY for myself, like lying in a cold desert surrounded by fires, staring into the stars |
7 | | Bibio Sleep on the Wing
birdcore |
8 | | Neptunian Maximalism Éons
okay granted this one does have a review and lots of ratings, but it's one of the coolest albums i've heard in a while and i think it deserves way more attention, it truly sounds like the apocalypse. unbelievably visual, i feel like i can see the story unfolding. ancient, massive, brutal, and beautiful as our human era gets stomped out and stampeded by our new intelligent elephant overlords |
9 | | Talons' Make America Again
i'm not sure i could say why but this album makes me cry every damn time. intensely relevant bedroom-folk for the here and now, bless you M. Tolan, might be my AOTY as of now |
10 | | Death to Suburbia i feel fucking terrible, or whatever
to be fair i'm biased because i did do some production on this buuuuut i think these are some genuinely good emo songs, if you're into Brand New or The Wonder Years check this out |
11 | | Wishing none of this was your fault
Mitch/Flatsound and Christian/Fox Academy on this project, kinda dreamy lo-fi emo beats, feels like 5am alone in the forest. it's a beautiful, quiet, heartbroken album. if nothing else, listen to the song eight months, that one is really incredible. |
