Hello, users of this platform, I am a guy who loves listening to music and listens to a lot of it. Since graduating college I have lost some outlets of expressing my love for new music coming out each week. So, I think I want to do a ranking of each record that was released the previous week and explain my thought. Now, not all the records have to be from the exact week. For example, this week it was light so I was able to explore some of the releases that came out in Japan this year. So with that out of the way here we go. | | 8 |  | Andy Stott
It Should Be Us
I don't get the hype behind this. It's an average house sound, with some nice experimentation, but the record gets so stale and boring by the third track that I would rather just listen to A.A.L, daft punk, or better house producers. | | 7 |  | Tei Shi
La Linda
Some good and solid RnB here, but also several of the tracks completely miss the mark. The blood orange feature is really solid though and helps to bring her talent to light. Also, the record is a tad all over the place with styles that don't clash well. However, a good start for the artist. | | 6 |  | Iri
Shade
This falls into the wagon of, it's j-pop but it most cases it's just like American pop music from 5 years ago in a different language. Not bad, but not mind-blowing. | | 5 |  | オオハシ (Ohashi)
波のはじまり (Nami no Hajimari)
It's interesting to see a math-rock and psychedelic fusion, that isn't coming from the likes of royal coda, stolas, or chon. So in other words, it's nice to see someone taking a different approach than the swancore side. However, this has the same problem with it that previous bands have, it's just not that interesting from front to back. It's nice for the first three or four tracks, but the sound becomes quite stale after that. However, it's nice to see more band pushing the sound of math-rock forward. | | 4 |  | Madeon
Good Faith
Honestly, it's not that revolutionary when it comes to dance-pop and electropop. However, it's well done and has a solid flow that doesn't overstay its welcome. Bringing in a lot of house elements, but its well done. | | 3 |  | NOT WONK
Down the Valley
Be prepared from some very nasally vocals, but the energy and the influences are massive on this post-hardcore outfit from Japan. Brining elements of post-punk, post-hardcore, post-grunge, indie-rock, and some others. The only gripe I really have with it is they definitely wear their contemporary influences on their sleeves. Air Ni Ni
Thank you to whoever posted the review of this record on sputnik. I honestly have no words for this record other than getting ready for a bind boggling, fast-paced, and wonky free jazz project. Veil of Imagination
A nifty little folk metal outfit that really brings a punch when it comes to that niche seen. I always love finding overblown progressive records and that very much scratches that itch. Maybe a tad overblown in the production department, but its a solid, heavy, and explosive record. | |
