My Top 10 Albums (as of 12/07/16)
These are my personal favourites as of right now, feel free to rec me some stuff. Also pls no roasterino |
1 | | The Mars Volta Frances the Mute
This album blows me away after every relisten. The intense power of some moments, the perfect instrumentation, the booming vocals. Just divine. |
2 | | The Microphones The Glow Pt. 2
The Glow took some time to grow on me, but when it did I came to appreciate the beauty and genius of it. This is a masterpiece disguised as an amateurish recording and it never fails to pull at my heartstrings. |
3 | | Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
Cliche pick for sure, but this was the album that made me fall in love with folk rock, as well as albums in general. |
4 | | The Beatles Abbey Road
Abbey Road is an absolute classic with a certain magic to it that keeps it timeless. The amalgamation of The Beatles' decade of innovation. |
5 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
Lift Your Skinny Fists will probably go down in history as the best ambient album of all time. It's a stunning piece of work that almost sounds too good to be human. |
6 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
This is the album that made me appreciate the genius of hip-hop. Kendrick introduces the perfect blend of old school sound mixed with a modern twist, and puts his own unique spin on current societal issues of America. I could tell it would be an instant classic from the first listen. |
7 | | Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Miles ahead of its time, Pink Floyd created a cornerstone piece of prog history that will never fade away. |
8 | | Radiohead Kid A
In reality #8 is somewhat of a tie between this and OKC, but personally I lean more towards Kid A as Radiohead's best, because I prefer the more electronic sound. |
9 | | mewithoutYou Brother, Sister
Brother, Sister sounds a bit like a mash of 4 albums to me. ITAOTS's vocals, Funeral's tone, WPSIATWIN's power, and Pink Moon's acoustics. And it works brilliantly. |
10 | | Rishloo Living as Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth
Living as Ghosts is my favourite modern prog album. Not only is it endlessly catchy, but the writing and instrumentation are just so amazing. Also Andrew Mailloux's vocals are incredible, way better than Maynard. |
