No Expletives! A Rec Competition Round 3

Each round I'll pick a genre (except this one for a changeup) and will take one song rec. The song cannot contain any profanity, curses, swears etc...
1Childish Gambino
"Awaken, My Love!"

For this round I want a song about love, whether it be positive or negative that is up to you. The genre CANNOT be either of the genres in the previous rounds (hip hop or black metal) [and yes onionbubs since you did metalcore, it cannot be metalcore for you] but other than that, anything is fair game. The song CANNOT be misogynistic in any form. There will be 4 eliminations this round.

Siren Song
The emotional pristine vocals here convey the emotions marvelously. The anxiety that comes with fear of losing your lover to someone else is personified perfectly in instrumental fashion with the layering of synth, piano and epic drum beats. A near perfect execution that builds up with unbridled intensity. 4.5/5

Hold Me Down
This was an emotionally charged pop punk song that surprised me quite a bit. I had heard this album awhile back but didn't remember specifics and the lyrics here were really impressive and the pop punk side of me couldn't help but indulge here. 4.7/5

Blood Loss
Though lyrically quite compelling I find Brian Fallon's voice a bit try hard at times and this was one of those times where it just didn't do it for me unfortunately. However, I cant deny the imperatively well written lyrics and enjoyable instrumentals. 3.7/5

Live at Sin-é (Legacy Edition)

Drifter
If You Knew
Sometimes an expression of love can be expressed in such simplistic yet elegant of a manner that it just cuts through you in way that no overwritten bullshit could ever do. There's a time when straightforwardness works and speaks volumes through delivery and pure-hearted musicianship and Jeff Buckley was one of those singers and instrumentalists who struck the vein of many with his marvelous vocals and keen sense for bare-boned melodies. 4.8/5

Transatlanticism

Transatlanticism
On the opposite end of the spectrum we have the more metaphorical songwriting that unravels as the singer does to the out burst of "I need you so much closer" as he comes to conclusion he ends up stating quite simply and truthfully he needs his lost lover. This was also quite touching but the vocal deliery during the end lacked the emphasis I craved. 4.4/5

Blue Isla
This had a production laden with heavy buzzing that really adds a unique power over the piano melody and the drawn out expressive vocals at play. I also really enjoyed the vocals though I had wished for a bit more lyrical variation. However, other than that nothing bad to say about the instrumentals or vocals at all and I really was a fan of the melody. 4.6/5

Dark Flowers
Another track highly dependent on the vocals and you guys are really catching on to what I enjoy most about music. The inflections of emotions than can be grasped in delivering an emotion to listeners. Emily has a haunting way of expressing such powerful emotions of loss of a loved one. The bareness of this track also works in favor of how heartfelt and saddening the vocals express her feelings of pain and heartbreak. 4.8/5
9Leonard Cohen
Songs of Leonard Cohen

Papa Universe
Suzanne
There's something majestic in the production of this song. There's strumming guitar lines buried within the folds of the muddled mixing paired with violins that peer in out with grace as the crooning female backing vocals add an almost angelic nature to the song. All of which matches perfectly with the biblical references being made in the lyrics. It's expertly conducted a musician who's mastered songwriting and delivers his rather straightforward vocals melodies with a confidence that helps them to shine despite their simplicity. 4.8/5

I admire your courage deeds this was in fact much different from the others in the pack. I attest that I typically do not indulge in doom metal, however, in this context it actually works quite well. The thick atmosphere that comes with the deep guitar riffs allow for the unexpectedly unique vocals to shine. The slow rolling guitar solo that extenuates fairly early into the track build in a grandiose fashion and I could have even done with it going on longer I enjoyed it so much. The desperation in the vocals here were a real seller though I must admit. 4.6/5

I honestly was hoping a lot of you would take the route of strong vocal tracks and you guys didn't disappoint at all. Sinternet had rec'd a Tom Waits track in a previous rec comp and I loved it as well. This is a clear testament that I obviously need to check out more Tom Waits. The guitar solo in the mix of these incredibly soulful croonings carried just as much dazzle and shimmered with bright tonality. You can feel the passion bleed from Tom's voice with every line. Simply stellar vocals honestly... and the guitar melodies on this thing. 5/5

Get Out
I loved Midnight Organ Fight upon giving it a listen after hearing about Scott Hutchison's death and it was a highly emotional experience that really struck me. However, on this song I feel it failed to carry the same emotional weight as some of the high points on that album. I also found that the electronic components distracted from the more natural guitar tones, which I feel work better with Scott's vocals. I guess in general this felt a bit overproduced to me, by comparison. I also felt the chorus was fairly bland and really lacked the passionate delivery I was expecting here. 3.2/5

SCREAM!
And I Drove You Crazy
Drenched in deep atmospheric electronics and fairly pleasurable production, Banks does a wonderful job of representing the emotions being expressed here. Her vocals don't steer very far from her other vocals peers but they do the job just fine. I did enjoy this but did feel that it could have used a bit more punch in vocal delivery. 4/5

Stand Inside Your Love
The was a really well written rock track that sounded pretty much like any other Smashing Pumpkins song I had already been familiar with in the past. An enjoyable outing for sure but didn't quite punch my heart in the manner that I was looking for. 3.5/5
