| My Favorite 10 Local Albums of 2018
Because I write a lot about the music from my native Long Island and the surrounding area on my blog, in addition to my Top 10 Albums list, I also do a Top 10 Local Albums list. As usual, there was definitely some overlap this year. My definition of "local" is fairly flexible. | 10 | | Jeff Rosenstock POST-
This is the third time that Rosenstock has made one of my Top 10 Local Artists lists, and although I consider this the weakest (or at the least the most inconsistent) of his three solo albums, it's still pretty damned good. Like all of his work, it's noisy, punky and fun. My favorite track: Melba. | 9 | | Senses Fail If There Is Light, It Will Find You
An excellent album of pop punk by this New Jersey-based band. The album isn't as consistent as I'd like, but when it's strong, it's very strong. Favorite Track: Double Cross. | 8 | | John Nolan Abendigo
This is the latest solo album by John Nolan, of Taking Back Sunday and Straylight Run fame. He did a really nice job here of mixing and matching of styles. Favorite track: Outside of This Tragedy. | 7 | | Cassandra House The Roam
House is a Long Islander who works in the country/folk/Americana genre. She has quite a bit of vocal talent, especially when it comes to expressive singing, and she's a decent songwriter as well. Favorite track: Little Flower. | 6 | | Rachael Sage Myopia
Sage is a New-York-based singer-songwriter whose style contains just a touch of cabaret. She kind of reminds me of (and looks like) a happier Tori Amos. This is her 13th studio album. Favorite track: Sparks | 5 | | The Republic of Wolves shrine
One of the best bands out there these days from my native Long Island, this album is dark, sweet and just a little heavy. Favorite track: Dialogues | 4 | | MGMT Little Dark Age
I liked this duo's debut album, but didn't think much of their next two. In fact, I wouldn't have even bothered with this one except for the strong word of mouth. I used to consider these guys a lesser Passion Pit, but they really pulled me back into the fold with this one. Favorite track: She Works Out Too Much | 3 | | Matt and Kim Almost Everyday
This is another concept album, which finds our heroes musing about topics such as death and growing older. Favorite track: Youngest I Will Be | 2 | | Frankie Cosmos Vessel
I liked this one from the beginning, but at first, the loose structures of the songs confused me. As the year wore on, however, I grew to appreciate this album more and more. Favorite track: Duet | 1 | | Reed and Caroline Hello Science
This one really grew on me over the course of the year. The album is a concept album, made up of songs on a variety of science-themed topics. They're like a more ethereal, less humorous Future Bible Heroes. Favorite track: Before | |

01.13.19 | And thus, I'm finally done with this year's list. It's a huge relief, sort of like when you're constipated, and you finally have that good BM. And now, I'm ready for 2019. |
