rec roulette round 7: teach me how to hip hop

Whatever
1Kendrick Lamar
To Pimp a Butterfly

My basic current favorite. Rules are rec me anything I have not heard, or if you're feeling brave, rec me something I have heard but have rated lower than a 4 (if you are convinced I'll change my mind on it)
2Mos Def
Black on Both Sides

The one know as butcherboy- 4.7
So basically this was really good. The lyrics were absolutely amazing and the beats were too for a solid most part. I'm just gonna argue why this isn't a 5 since it's basically perfect but I have nitpicky complaints. Really only 2 songs were out of the 4.5+ range (Do It Now and Got). Do It Now is a bit repetitive and I don't care for Busta Rhymes style too much but it's still a really great song. Got is kinda meh but still decent. Because these are back to back, it makes it hard for me to 5 this but there are plenty of 5.0 songs here.
3Beastie Boys
Paul's Boutique

King Crimson- 4.5
While Mos Def had his strengths in perfect lyricism, this album finds its niche with the music. It's got an incredible variety of sounds behind the verses which are well but together by any standards but not quite mind blowing. The simpler style of lyrics works better with their high energy delivery though. My only complaints for this are that it may be too all over the place, but obviously that's a small complaint based on my rating.

Eazy-Duz-It

UniqueIsLosing- 2.2
So basically this album sucked. The lyricism was absolutely juvenile both on content and style. There was no complexity, no literary devices, no assonance or internal rhyme to make everything smooth, etc. The beats weren't special enough to keep attention on their own either. Just as an example of how bad the lyricism is, I'll quote something. As context, the song We Want Eazy precedes this and (every song does this but especially this one) it repeats Eazy's name over and over beyond an understandable level of narcissism. Then in Eazy-er Said than Dunn, I quote...
5Eazy-E
Eazy-Duz-It

Yo man I don't think they heard you
Why don't you tell 'em what ya name is
My name is eazy yeah this is true
Keepin' your attention is what I'm gonna do
Hardcore yo I could never be soft
Askin' me my defin' they say the boy goes off
Fillin' up my memo with the touch of my rhyme
Suckaz stayin' with me cause they know the time
