Collection Updates
This month's been pretty good in terms of discovering music. Some of these are things I finally got around to picking up, and some were recommendations (many thanks for the ones I got on here).
#1-4 are vinyl
#5-7 are CDs |
1 | | Madvillain Madvillainy
Really digging this, even though I spent my first listen worried because of all the pops and clicks (not realizing they were from Madlib's samples). Thanks to Avagantamos for the suggestion on this & 2. |
2 | | OutKast Aquemini
Judging from my first listen, I can't believe I didn't get this earlier. I thought it was slightly overlong, but I'll have to do some repeat listens to actually decide on that. |
3 | | Run the Jewels Run the Jewels
This is pretty much right on par with RTJ2. I really need to delve into Killer Mike & El-P's solo records. |
4 | | Sufjan Stevens Illinois
Even thought it was really kinda obvious, this makes me legitimately sad that the 50 States Project was never serious. |
5 | | Cap'n Jazz Analphabetapolothology
Pretty cool anthology. I don't know if I'd ever listen to it as a whole (at least not past Shmap'n Shmazz) again, but it's a great footnote for the band. |
6 | | The Hold Steady Almost Killed Me
I love Separation Sunday & Boys and Girls in America to death, so I figured I'd look into the beginning of Craig's narratives. They're meta as hell, so this is long overdue. |
7 | | Kendrick Lamar good kid, m.A.A.d city
Easily one of the greatest concept albums of all time, and almost as jaw-droppingly amazing as To Pimp a Butterfly. I've heard records with stories and running themes, but I don't think I've heard one structured like a nonlinear movie. |
